CHPS WEEKLY--Perseverance
Cherry Hill Public Schools December 8, 2024

A week of PERSEVERANCE
Good evening, CHPS-
Younger elementary students at Horace Mann, Bret Harte, and Cooper showed PERSEVERANCE in practicing their addition and subtraction throughout the fall. There were challenges and it wasn't always easy. However, this past week, they were surprised by a visit from JiJi the Penguin who came in as a mystery reader as a reward for those students having demonstrated exceptional proficiency in addition and subtracting. PERSEVERANCE paid off!
Vocalists in sixth grade at Carusi, persevered through many rehearsals, mastering their musical selections over the past several months. Working on challenging musical phrases and harmonies tested these young musicians. But, all of their hard work and PERSEVERANCE paid off as they put their talents on display at Carusi Vocal Concert for family and friends. It was an exceptional evening of music.
East Speech and Debate members competed in the St. Joseph's University nationals circuit competition on November 23-24. In the photo above are members of the Speech and Debate team who brought home awards at the two competitions of the season. These scholars displayed PERSEVERANCE in their quest for success in debate competition through an intense practice schedule, and in the end, they succeeded in more ways than one.
And not to be overlook is the PERSEVERANCE displayed by our faculty and staff in all of the above situations, and many, many others throughout the district, as they work with their students day in and day out.
Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, Fatihah Abdur-Rahman, sent the following to faculty who worked with their scholars on addition and subtraction as referenced above, but it applies to so many of our staff throughout the district:
"Your scholars did an outstanding job demonstrating this skill, which is a testament to your dedication and the academic excellence you cultivate in your classroom."
All of the above encompass PERSEVERANCE-working towards success, even through challenges. When folks in our community persevere, they show resilience, determination and grit. And when all of those attributes are compounded in individuals at every level, we become a community of motivated, dedicated people.
Sincerely,
Kwame Morton
