I am so excited to welcome you all back at Cascade Locks School in a few weeks. There are a lot of events coming up before school starts.
- Hair Because we Care! All students in grades K-12 are welcome to sign up for FREE haircuts at the port pavilion on August 12 from 2:00-6:00pm. If you are interested in a haircut for your K-12 student, please scan the QR code to confirm an appointment time. Contact us with any questions: hrprevents@gmail.com.
- Ready Set Learn Back-to-School Resource Fair from 4pm to 6pm at Westside Elementary School Tuesday August 13th. This event is designed to provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the various community and school district resources available to support your student's success throughout the school year. By attending, you will have the chance to connect with local organizations and discover valuable services that can enrich your student’s educational experience.The event will include activities for children, school information, and food. We hope you can join us! TRANSPORTATION Available! There will be a free CAT bus picking up at Columbia Market at 3:40 to transport families to and from the event at Westside. Make it a family field trip!
- Open House- Thursday August 22, 5:00-6:30 All Family address in the gym at 5:00. Classroom visitations beginning at 5:30 with local partners and dinner hosted by PTO out on the playground!

School Supplies:
Our elementary and middle schools will provide school supplies for students. We will collect monetary contributions for school supplies. We will send a message about the suggested contribution amount and payment methods. We will use the money to cover the supplies needed for this school year, which are grade—and teacher-specific. Thank you to those of you who can contribute.
Hood River Valley High School will inform families about school supplies needed in its school communications
We do ask that you send your children to school with a backpack and water bottle. If you need a backpack please reach out to the office and we can get you set up! 541-374-8467
Have You Registered for School?
All returning students must register for school. Please complete your registration as soon as possible, and let us know if you need help. Enrollment for new students is open for the 2024-25 school year. In addition, returning student registration (i.e. verifying student information) for the 2024-25 school year is open. For more information about the online enrollment and registration processes, please visit this HRCSD webpage (Our District>Enrollment). You may also call 541-386-2511 or email hrcsd.enrollment@hoodriver.k12.or.us. If you know a NEW family that needs to register send them by the front office or call 541-374-8467 and well help them through the process.
First Day of School for 1st-5th graders is August 26th and it is a Late Start!
The first day of school for grades 1st-5th grade is Monday August 26th. Monday August 26th is a late start. School begins at 8:35. Doors open at 8:15
Kindergarten families will receive a different first week schedule. Aug 26 & 27 will be home visits. Aug 28, 1/2 the students will attend, August 29, the other half will attend. Aug 30 All kinders will attend. More details will be coming to kinder families.

I will be sending another newsletter out before the first week of school with teacher assignments, pick up drop off expectations for families, and all other details to make our first few days go smoothly.
Bus route information
All Hood River County School District students may ride the bus. The bus routes are posted on this HRCSD webpage(Departments>Transportation>Bus Routes). Please call your school office if you have any questions
School Hours
When students arrive on time, they are able to start the day on a positive note by fully participating in their morning meeting, getting prepared for the day, which sets the tone for a successful day of learning. Our morning meetings are a time of connection, sharing, building community and providing routine. Being on time ensures your student has the full benefit of the classroom experience.
Tuesday-Friday: School begins at 7:35 and ends at 2:05 If eating breakfast please arrive at 7:15
Mondays: School begins at 8:35 and ends at 2:05 If eating breakfast please arrive at 8:15
School meals offered at no cost
All Hood River County School District students receive school meals through a federal program at no cost. For more information about Nutrition Services, please visit the nutrition services website(Departments>Nutrition Services).

Absences and Tardies:
The main office must be notified of all absences and tardies. Please phone the office when your child is absent or late to school. We strive to have all students miss less than 10 days of school per year! You may contact our office by phoning 541-374-8467
School Communication:
The following methods will be used by the school to communicate with Cascade Locks Elementary families:
Weekly Update Link will be sent to email and through text message. The weekly newsletter will contain important school information. It is sent out EVERY Friday. Please read this as we do not send home paper notices and reminders.
Talking Points: You can opt to receive text messages or download the TalkingPoints for Families mobile app. You can also use TalkingPoints on the web. Talking Points is a great way to communicate with teachers, administrators, and office staff! There is no charge from TalkingPoints to use text messages, the mobile app, or the web. talkingpts.org

AVID
Cascade Locks is an AVID elementary school. AVID stands for, Advancement Via Individual Determination.By teaching and reinforcing academic behaviors and higher-level thinking at a young age, AVID Elementary teachers create a ripple effect in later grades. Students develop the academic habits they will need to be successful in middle school, high school, and college, in an age-appropriate and challenging way. Students learn about organization, study skills, communication, and self-advocacy. AVID Elementary students take structured notes and answer and ask high-level questions that go beyond routine answers.
Mission: Our mission is to empower and engage students by providing them with opportunities, instilling confidence and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively.
Vision:All students are lifelong learners who have the confidence to take risks, discover their passion, and achieve their goals and dreams.
Peachjar shares resources and opportunities
We are now using Peachjar! Parents/guardians receive digital flyers containing school and community resources that aim to improve the trajectory of students’ lives. This transition will also save our schools time and money while ensuring important information makes it home to parents.
