Principal's Message
Dear Families,
During our Veteran's Day Assembly last Friday, we were able to honor a Greeley parent, Mr. Evan Brainerd, for his service to our country. We were also fortunate to welcome the Great Lakes Navy Woodwind Band, who played a few selections for us, taught us about their instruments, and reviewed the different branches of the military. A big thank you to our teachers Ms. Borchers and Ms. Glass, who helped to plan and execute this assembly!
This week, we look forward to welcoming you into the building for our fall conferences. Our teachers are looking forward to sharing more about the progress your child has made so far this year, and to continue a collaborative partnership to ensure continued growth this school year.
Warmly,
Principal Kopinski

Parent Teacher Conferences November 14 and 15
Conferences this fall have shifted from October to November. To prepare for a conference experience that meets the needs of students and parents, in the spring of 2024 parents were invited to complete a feedback survey. Staff used the survey to update information related to the purpose of conferences.
This year, you can expect to discuss the following topics at fall conferences:
- Parent Input
- How has the beginning of the school year gone?
- What do you hear at home about school?
- Anything else you want to share?
- What would you like to learn about at this conference?
- Social Emotional Skills
- Transition to school
- Work habits & Participation
- Community member (Charter, Portrait of a Graduate)
- Friendships/Relationships/Play
- Behavior
- Academic Skills (literacy, math, social studies, science)
- Teachers will share artifacts
- Typical expectations for fall
- What teachers are working on now with your child
- How you can support at home
After your conference, please be sure to check the lost and found. To date, we have 177 items (and counting) added in the first 40 days of school.
Divorce Support Group for Students
The Greeley Behavioral Health Team (BHT) will be starting an 8-week divorce support group. The purpose of this group will be to provide a space at school for students to talk about changes at home, feelings associated with divorce, and provide a sense of community. We will be meeting 2x per month and the group will be capped at 6 students (available parents who sign up first). If there is a need, there will be another 8-week session offered later in the year.
If you would like your child to be part of this group or have any questions, please email Katie Kalogriopoulos, school social worker, at katiekalogriopoulos@winnetka36.org.
Reminders from Last Week
Discovery Clubs
Discovery Clubs (formerly referred to as after-school electives), offer specialty programming for Greeley students after the school day ends. These seasonal Clubs are offered in three sessions - fall, winter and spring - with five Club programs per session, each on a different day of the week. Greeley PTO works with the Discovery Club provider, Right at School, to offer an array of programming targeting activities such as STEM, arts and movement with offerings across age groups. Look for more information about Discovery Clubs and winter Club offerings in upcoming PTO newsletters or on the Discovery Club website: https://www.rightatschool.com/discoveryclubs/.
The Dimension of Belonging featured in November is “welcomed” and monthly observances include Native American Heritage Month, Diwali, Veteran’s Day, and Thanksgiving. Learn more by reading the Belonging Means… Newsletter which features contributions from Hubbard Woods and the Department of Human Resources/Professional Development.
