Sagebrush Elementary
Family Update 9/27/2024
Message from the Principal
Dear Sagebrush Elementary Families,
Over the past couple of weeks we have conducted safety drills at our school to ensure that our students are prepared for any emergency situations. These drills included fire, lockdown, and secure procedures.
Our students participated with great focus and understanding, and we reinforced the importance of staying calm and following instructions. Our School Safety Leadership team met this week to review our procedures and improve our processes for the next time. Safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your support in helping your children understand these important practices.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Chris Powell
Principal
Message from the Assistant Principal
Attendance Counts
We are doing our official student attendance counts for the state of Colorado on Tuesday, October 1st and Thursday, October 3rd. Please make every effort to have your child here by 7:55 on both of those days.
Missing just 2 days of school a month equates to 20 days a year of missed learning. We know that many students experience challenges in their lives stemming from health concerns, difficult life circumstances, and more that make it difficult for them to come to school every day.
In Cherry Creek Schools, we have several resources to support students and families boost wellness and reduce instances of chronic absenteeism. Learn more about how CCSD is addressing physical and mental health concerns, assisting families with housing needs, and providing alternative online learning opportunities for students with complex schedules.
Thank you,
Dena McMurtry
Assistant Principal

Random Acts of Kindness at Home
At Sagebrush, teachers have talked to their classes about "filling others' buckets" with drops of kindness. Some actions empty buckets while others fill it up.
At home, you can use these questions:
● What words or ways people act fill your bucket?
● What words or ways people act empty your bucket?
● When you fill people’s buckets, how do you think they feel about you?
● What can you do if your disrespectful words or actions empty someone else’s buckets?
The people in your home need encouragement and kind words just as much as you. If you are ready to go the extra mile, try this:
● Offer 3 genuine compliments to others in your home this week!
● How did they react? How did you feel giving the compliments?
● Kindness is contagious! Pass it on.

Remember that you can extend kindness to yourself with positive self-talk!
Thank you for being a part of our learning community!
