On this Day in History: May 20th
- In 1956, The U.S. exploded the first airborne hydrogen bomb over Bikini Atoll in the pacific.
- In 1862, President Lincoln signed the Homestead Act to encourage settlers to travel west of the Mississippi river.
- Amelia Earhart also made a point on this day, in 1932, when she took off from Newfoundland to become the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. However because of weather and problems with the equipment, Amelia landed in Northern Ireland, instead of her intended destination in France. --Emma

May Character Trait of the month is Self-Control
The character trait for the month of May is Self-Control. It is based on Bible verse Galatians 5:22-23 which says, "But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."
We asked three students how they would describe self-control and here's what they had to say: Sara Grace, in 3rd grade, said that self-control is being patient and waiting your turn. Jonah, in 2nd grade, said that self-control is listening and not being crazy. Izzy, in 5th grade, said that self-control is not hurting others and being kind. --Carissa
