FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
I hope you're enjoying the start of Summer! Today we celebrate the feast of St. Irenaeus who famously remarked that "the Glory of God is a human being fully alive.” I pray that these summer months provide time for you and your students to be fully alive. Time to rest, of course, but also time to play, to explore, to go on adventures, and to learn not just about math or reading but about ourselves and one another. Indeed this is to experience the Glory of God!
Here are a few things we've been up to during the first two weeks of Summer here at Father Doyle:
- The new classroom furniture for Mrs. Burns' and Mr. Perretta's rooms is on its way! It is slated to arrive Tuesday or Wednesday of next week and will be installed for the start of the school year. A reminder that this is only possible because of your generosity and support at the annual School Auction this year. Thank you!
- Our facilities crew has been hard at work! All of our classrooms are being deep cleaned and floors are being buffed for the start of the 2024-2025 school year. This is a considerable undertaking - especially in the heat - and we're so grateful for Mr. John and Mr. Al!
- Summer Camps have been in full swing with Best Summer Break and Theater Camp last week and two Art Camps this week! It's wonderful to see students continuing to learn and grow over the summer months. See below for select photos from our camps!
- Looking for Summer Reading or Supply Lists for your child? These documents can now be found on the FACTS Family Portal under Resource Documents or on the App (see the tile with the title "Supply Lists"). Please note that Summer Reading assignments begin for those students entering grade four.
- We're continuing to revise, review, and enhance our curricula across the grade levels! With a focus on mathematics curriculum this past year and writing standards the year prior, we will be working to revise and enhance our social studies curriculum over the course of the 2024-2025 school year. In addition, keep an eye out for new Religion instructional materials in the upcoming school year.
- We want to hear from you! We've been reviewing information and data from our 2023-2024 End of Year Survey. If you haven't completed your survey yet, you can do so here. Thank you for your feedback!
A few other notes regarding the conclusion of the school year:
- Over the summer months, the Weekly Newsletter will move to a bi-weekly format. The next Weekly Newsletter will be sent Friday, July 12th
- Please see below for important information regarding bussing for the 2024-2025 school year.
- Attention all incoming 8th graders! Mr. Peloquin and Mr. Perretta are running an High School Placement Test (HSPT) Prep Course in August! See below for more details.
- In addition, please be sure to review the Nurse's Corner below for information regarding School Nurse forms for the upcoming year.
Once again, thank you for a wonderful year!
Information Regarding Bussing for the 2024-2025 School Year
If you are a Coventry resident and your child/ren will require bussing for the 2024-2025 school year, you must sign up using the form here. Please note, you must sign up each year. Registration does not carry over from one year to the next.
In addition, please note that there will be some changes to bus stop locations in the year ahead. Please see the message here for more information.
HSPT Prep Course with Mr. Perretta and Mr. Peloquin
Over the summer, Mr. Peloquin and Mr. Perretta will be offering a course to prepare students entering 8th grade for the High School Placement Test or HSPT in the Fall. The HSPT is the standard entrance exam for many high schools in the area including Prout and Hendricken.
The course will break down each section of the test (verbal skills, quantitative reasoning, reading, mathematics, and language skills) and provide students with test taking techniques, practice problems, and guided instruction for each of these areas.
The course will then culminate with a full length practice test which will mimic the test conditions of the actual exam. This practice test will then be scored and you will be provided with a summary that identifies any remaining areas of difficulty that students should continue working on before taking the test in the fall.
The class runs for six sessions including the practice exam. Sessions will be held from Monday, August 5th through Friday, August 9th with the practice exam being proctored on Monday, August 12th. The program runs from 9:00am-11:30am each day and will meet at the school. The fee for the course is $225.00 per student total. Because a course of this nature is most effective in small groups, the course will be limited to the first ten registrants. If there is additional interest beyond the first ten registrants, consideration will be given to running a second course.
If your child would be interested in participating in this course, please register and complete payment for the course by following the link here.
Thank you for your interest, and we look forward to working with your students this summer!
Uniform Fitting and Ordering
You can order your uniforms directly through the school here or though our app. You can always order directly through Donnelly's. If you are ordering uniforms directly from the school, and need help with sizing or help ordering , please schedule a time with Mrs. Jarvis or Mrs. Marra. If you are ordering directly through Donnelly's please make an appointment through their website for sizing and help ordering . It is highly recommend that all orders be in by July 1st to ensure you receive your uniforms on time!
Bulk Ordering for Gym T-shirts and Sweatshirts
We are happy to bring back a way for our families to save some money on school gym shirts. In order to get the best pricing, we will be bulk ordering these items. T-shirts are $10, and Sweatshirts are $17. Because this is a bulk order all student orders must be placed by July 1st. (No Exceptions) Gym shirts can be ordered at. https://fjvduniforms.square.site They will be shipped to the school and we will set up a time to pick them up prior to the first week of school. (Gym shirts can still be ordered from Donnelly’s or the school website at regular price at any time.)
As always, be assured of my prayers for you and your families.
God bless and Go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin
