Dear Mission View families-
New Year, New Goals!
Happy New Year! As we welcome 2025, we are excited to set new goals and continue working together to support our students' success. January is a great time to reflect on progress and focus on the steps needed to achieve academic and personal growth. Let’s make this year one of collaboration and achievement!
The Importance of Goal Setting for Students
Goal setting is a powerful tool for student success. Here’s why it matters:
Provides Direction: Setting goals helps students understand what they are working toward and keeps them focused.
Builds Motivation: Achieving small, measurable goals boosts confidence and encourages students to strive for more.
Improves Academic Outcomes: Students who set and track goals are more likely to stay organized and succeed academically.
Teaches Responsibility: Setting and pursuing goals fosters accountability and time management skills.
Upcoming Events
Awards Assembly: Celebrating Student Achievements
Join us on January 10th as we recognize students who have met their learning goals in reading, writing, and math. This celebration honors their hard work and perseverance. We hope to see you there! Invitations with specific times will be sent home on January 6th, only if your child will be receiving an award.Curriculum Night: Showcasing Learning and Parent Engagement
Mark your calendars for January 28th! Curriculum Night will be a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their learning in reading, math, and science. Parents will also have the chance to learn practical strategies for supporting their child’s learning at home. We look forward to seeing you there and partnering for student success. FREE bike repairs will also be offered this evening, provided by Living Streets Alliance.
The Importance of Parent Involvement
Research shows that parent involvement is a key factor in student success. Here are some simple ways to stay engaged:
Celebrate accomplishments: Acknowledge your child’s progress and efforts.
Stay informed: Attend school events and communicate regularly with teachers.
Encourage a love of learning: Read together, explore new topics, and ask open-ended questions.
Together, we can make a positive difference in your child’s educational journey. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
After School Tutoring
After School Tutoring Opportunities for Spring Semester
For this second semester, we are making some changes to our after school tutoring focus and identifying student needs. Invitations for Spring after school tutoring will be sent home on Monday, January 6th. If your child attended after school tutoring during the first semester, they may or may not be invited for the second semester.
Please note that this does not include our after school Puppetry, Folklorico, Mariachi, Girl Scouts, or Bike Clubs. All students participating in these programs will continue through the end of the year.
If you receive a tutoring invitation, please sign and return it as soon as possible. Thank you for your ongoing support of our after school programs.
Why Tutoring Matters
Tutoring provides personalized support to help students master challenging concepts.
It builds confidence by addressing individual learning needs.
Regular participation can lead to improved academic performance and study habits.
Students benefit from a structured, focused learning environment.
Your involvement ensures the success of these programs and helps us support every child’s academic journey.
Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
THANK YOU to all who came to our Noche De Gala event. We hope you were able to enjoy the hard work our students and staff put into making the event such a huge success. PTA was able to use some of the funding to purchase and make the decorations seen around the stage area. A huge thank you to: Ms. Liza, Ms. Karen, Ms. Jannette, Ms. Del Valle, Mrs. Fotakis, Ms. Derbyshire's class, and Mrs. Barnett for their donations and help in creating the decorations. With help from El Triunfo Bakery donation and the Fotakis Family donations of baked goods, we were able to make $335.25 as our profit. We also had wonderful volunteers during the event to help us sell items. We thank you for your support and donations.
PTA also sold 137 Winter Grams in December. Our profit was $113.15. Students were able to enjoy their winter grams on Thursday, December 18th.
At our last meeting, PTA members voted to use some of the money earned to purchase a small gift for each of our students for the 100th day of school. We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Tuesday, January 21st. We encourage our students and staff to participate in the celebration of the 100th day of school by coming dressed as a 100-year-old person OR wearing a t-shirt representing 100th day of school.
Please join us for our PTA meeting on January 21st at 3:00pm. Snacks will be provided and a raffle for attendees. At our next PTA meeting, we will be finalizing plans for our Curriculum Night on January 28th from 5:00 - 6:30pm, to see what items we will be selling throughout the night. We will also be finalizing our Love of Reading Week fundraiser and gift for students. Please join us in sharing your voice to making these upcoming events successful!

Counselor's Corner
January is a time to make New Year resolutions! And it’s a very good time to talk about goals with our kids.
Possible student goals: Are they doing their chores? Reading for fun? Learning their multiplication tables? You might have a family goal of writing a kindness note to a person in your family once a week. The possibilities are endless!
Our Character Strong trait for the month of January is perseverance. We all need perseverance when we don’t meet our goals right away. At Mission View students will learn about growth mindset. Simply put, we work on mini, baby steps toward a bigger goal. As we practice, we are never perfect, but we do better.
Please take extra loving care of your health and that of your family. Part of good health is making healthy choices. One of my goals is that our students will know the risks associated with smoking and vaping. We want to start early, since nicotine habits are so hard to break. In January or February, we’ll be watching the Pima County nicotine power points for kids and talking about avoiding peer pressure.
Let your children know that you want to see their progress and you are proud of how hard they are working. Let them know that learning is an important priority to you. That’s why we eat healthy foods, get exercise, go to bed early and come to school on time.
Happy goal setting!
Your counselor,
Jan Milligan
