Principal's Message
Dear Adelante Selby Spanish Immersion families,
I hope everyone is doing well. Spring is here and on campus our flowers and trees are blooming and it is a rejuvenating time as we finish off the last part of the school year. Last Thursday, we had our 2nd Trimester Alebrije Awards Ceremony and it was great to recognize a number of students for growth and achievement in a number of different areas. Check out the photos from the different grade level assemblies here: 2nd Trimester Alebrije Awards Assembly Photos
I hope to see everyone this Thursday for our Science Fair: 4:30-6:00pm in the 2 story building classrooms and Family STEAM night 6:00-7:30pm in the cafeteria(see paragraph below for more detailed information). A big SHOUT OUT to Maestro David and alumuni parent Anuj Gaggar for all of the hard work and preparation and to all of the parent volunteers!
There are two big community events that need volunteer support coming up in April: the 2nd Annual Day of Service/Campus Clean Up Event on April 20th and the Día Del Niño event on Saturday, April 27th. Please read the information describing both events and sign up to help out!

Science Fair Projects
The Science Fair is coming up on March 28th! Participating students should have received their kits and posterboard by now. CASSPP State Testing 3rd-5th Grades: Reminder Do Your Best On The Test!
CASSPP State Testing 3rd-5th Grades: Reminder Do Your Best On The Test!
CAASPP & CST: Testing Window May 6th-May 17th
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP): This test is for English Language Arts and Math. It also includes a Performance Task for both ELA and Math. Additionally, the 5th Grade is the only grade level that takes the California Science Test (CST) and the Physical Fitness test (both of which are part of the CAASPP).
It is important for all RCSD students to participate in these state assessments as results provide valuable information about each student’s academic progress. In addition, the number of students participating is used to determine school funding. Results are also used to assess the quality of RCSD schools, could determine statewide and national rankings, impact state accountability reports including college and career readiness measures.

Planning for Dia del Niño is underway and we are looking for volunteers to create booths. Do you have an idea for a fun booth for the event? For example: arts and crafts, science experiments, slime, games, etc. Unidos PTO can sponsor the booth and buy your supplies, or you or your company can sponsor the booth–an advertising opportunity for your company!

Child Nutrition Services: Breakfast and Lunch Menus
Child Nutrition Services: Breakfast and Lunch Menus
A healthy body fosters a healthy and focused mind. Well-rounded meals served in RCSD school cafeterias are created using USDA nutrition guidelines as well as “kid-approved” recipes. Whole grains, milk, fresh produce, protein, and healthy fats containing Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids are the stars of the breakfast and lunch menu items. Studies show that good eating habits and healthy behaviors are connected to academic achievement. Meals provided by Child Nutrition Services help to shape lifelong healthy habits. All students have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch for free again this year through our Child Nutrition Services.
