May 10th, 2024
A Message from Mrs. Enrique
Dear Families,
Thank you so much, parents and families, for your generosity in providing breakfasts and lunch this week for our faculty and staff. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of food and your caring presence this week! Our teachers have felt so special and have been well-fed!
Please pray for our second graders receiving First Holy Communion tomorrow, Saturday, May 11th. They have thoroughly prepared for the sacrament and we look forward to seeing them celebrate this occasion with their families and friends.
Best of luck to our Underwater Robotics Team. They are traveling to Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Cape Cod tomorrow, Saturday, May 11th to compete in the 2024 New England Regional MATE ROV Competition. They have diligently worked with our amazing parent volunteers on Saturdays at St. Mary's as well as Fridays afterschool testing the robot in a local pool. Good Luck!
Lastly, Happy Mother's Day to all mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and godmothers this weekend! Thank you for your selfless gift of love and compassion.

World Language Student Presentation
On Tuesday, our 3rd through 8th graders treated the older school community to five different performances, showcasing their French and Spanish understanding! Students sang the psalm, "The Lord is My Shepherd" in French, and they danced to Spanish numbers and months of the year. We are so proud of our students! Thank you to Monsieur Raymond and Profesora Bognet for instructing our students!
PreK
This week, our PreK students learned all about plants and flowers! They made beautiful observational drawings of flowers at the beginning of the week. They came to understand the parts of plants and that plants need water, sun, and soil to grow. Later in the week, they planted grass seeds and beans! It is always a fun learning experience in PreK!
Grade 1
Students in Ms. Reitnour’s 1st grade class showed off their sentence-writing skills this week! As Ms. Reitnour read a sentence aloud to the class, students wrote it down on their whiteboards, practicing correct suffixes and base words. Very well done Grade 1!
Grade 2
In Mrs. Fragola’s class, students read a short story called Kelly’s Speed Quiz. Students reflected on the story, identified main characters, pointed out the problem/challenge in the story, and then drew a picture of the parts of the story!
Grade 3
To give you an idea of what a morning in Ms K’s class looks like, here is a glimpse. Students shared their own riddles about their favorite characters, then, as a class, they stated aloud the class affirmations, including “Mistakes help me grow” and “I am brave.” Then, students began Social Studies work! All of this great work happened before 9 a.m. What a morning!
Grade 4 and 5 Waterworks Museum Field Trip
This week, students from Grades 4 and 5 went on a journey through the many stories connected to the Chestnut Hill High Service Pumping Station and the Boston Waterworks system. The centerpiece of the Waterworks Museum is its collection of steam engines. Three original coal-powered, steam-driven water pumps are preserved at the Museum and are monuments to 19th century technology and innovation. Leavitt, Worthington, and Allis stand in the Great Engines Hall and reach more than 3 stories tall!
