The Eagle Monthly
September 2022 Edition
Learning is not about the destination, it's about the journey.
De Zavala Eagle Pledge
As an Eagle I will do the best to be my best.
I am in charge of the choices I make.
I will treat others the way I would like to be treated.
I am safe, I am kind, I am accountable, I am a scholar.
De Zavala is Rated an "A" School!
We are so pleased to announce that De Zavala has been rated an "A" school by the TEA!!
We are only one of eleven schools in the FWISD district to receive that rating and one of only five schools that met five out six distinctions possible! This did not happen by accident, it took a lot of work by our dedicated teachers, staff and students to get to this point, not only in testing but also in growth. We are extremely proud of this rating and will continue to work toward continuing our success in this process. We hope that you, as part of the De Zavala Familia, will be as dedicated as we are in the coming year. We look forward to working together to continue our amazing journey.
Arrival/Dismissal
If you'd like your student to eat breakfast at school, the cafeteria opens at 7:20 am and closes at 7:45 am. Doors to enter the classrooms open at 7:40 am and instruction begins promptly at 7:50 am, please have your students arrive no later then 7:45 am. After 7:50 am students are considered tardy.
Dismissal time has changed. Pre-Kindergarten students are released at 2:30 pm by the pre-k classroom doors at the back of the school on Alston St. Pre-K students will be lined up inside the school’s hallway and the pre-k teachers/teacher assistants will dismiss the students to the parents. We ask that families wait patiently for their child by the school gate and do not come inside of the school gate so we can ensure children are dismissed in a safe and orderly manner to their families.
All other students are dismissed at 3:20 on College Ave. If you would like to have a conversation with a teacher please let them know and then park and wait until we have finished dismissal so that your teacher can dismiss their remaining students.
A courteous reminder that there will be no early dismissals after 2:00 pm for Pre-K and after 2:45 pm for K-5th grade. Thank you for your assistance in this matter!
Attendance
The year is just starting out and that makes good attendance even more important! We need our student's attendance to be above 90% so they can get the most out of the school year.
Please schedule doctor's appointments in the afternoon if at all possible so that the instructional day of your student is maximized. If you have to go to the doctor's office please make sure your student has a note to excuse the absence. We are taking absences very seriously, three unexcused absences requires a warning letter, five absences we will need to have an attendance meeting. We don't want to do that so please work with us so that we can avoid that situation.

Eagles of the Week
E: Excellence in Effort; A: Academic Achievement & Excellence; G: Growth Mindset; L: Leadership; E: Eager to Learn; S: Supportive.
Staff and students have collaborated to determine what we value here at De Zavala. Every month we focus on a specific trait, show all students a student created video with examples and reinforce that trait daily. This month we have been focusing on Excellence in Effort. This month's students show that excellence comes when you do your very best everyday. We are so proud of these students!

A welcome letter from our De Zavala PTA
Hello Fellow Eagles,
Whether you have a new student entering the school or have a returning student it is our pleasure to welcome you to our wonderful PTA community.
“What is PTA?” you may ask. It is a partnership between parents and teachers to enhance our children’s learning experience. Our goal every year is to support our school and to help provide programs that positively impact our students and staff and inspire them to achieve great things. Over the years, PTA has organized and funded many community building and educational events, along with providing materials and resources for the school.
We hope you will support De Zavala Elementary by joining PTA this year. Our goal is to always reach 100% membership and to give every student a voice. Joining the PTA is just the beginning: we hope you will participate in the PTA by attending a PTA meeting, attending and volunteering at our events, or even signing up to be a committee chair.
