Attendance
Last week, Mrs. Muniz’s class had the best attendance of the week. All of her students were in class 99% of the week. AMAZING work. Did you know that absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up. Here are some tips to help your student with good attendance:
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
- Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots.
- Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
- Try to schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session.
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
- If your child must stay home due to extended, ask the teacher or office for resources and ideas to continue learning at home.
Thinking Maps
This week, our teachers will focus on rolling out the final Thinking Map, the Bridge Map. The Bridge Map is used for seeing analogies and relationships. The Bridge Map should have a relating factor that allows the analogy to be read as a complete sentence.
This Map helps clarify information by showing how different topics or concepts are related to each other. Take a few minutes to engage in a family activity that will reinforce this type of thinking and learning for your child at home.
Walk to School Day
Thanks to everyone who participated in Walk to School Day on Wednesday. We had a great time walking from Estancia Park.
Recess Art
This week we had our first session of Recess Art. Students created monster Picaso masks at lunch on Wednesday, October 11. Many students participated and they had a great time with their creations. Recess Art was able to be funded through new grant money coming from the state of California to support arts in school.

Reminders
- We want our students to be successful in school and for this to be achieved we need the parents support. Parents, please make sure your student does not bring any toys to school. Also, if your student has a cellphone, remind your student the cellphone cannot be used during school hours. This also includes recess and lunch time. We thank you for your cooperation!
- Early Pick Ups- If you need to pick up your student early please do so by 2:30 as we are seeing an influx of parents coming about 10 minutes before the bell to pull their student which is causing a disruption as the teachers are helping all students pack up and the turnaround is quick.
- Birthday Celebrations - Our school does not do birthday celebrations, please do not bring cake, cupcakes, or candy to celebrate birthdays. We celebrate our All Stars calling out their name at the flag deck each day to celebrate them.

Social and Emotional Learning CASEL 5
It's clear that both parents and educators share a common desire for young people to thrive in various aspects of their lives, encompassing academics, personal development, and social interactions. This includes fostering motivation and the skills necessary for success, nurturing positive relationships with peers and adults, facilitating adaptation to the multifaceted challenges of growth and development, encouraging active contributions to their peer groups, families, schools, and communities, and instilling responsible decision-making that promotes well-being.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) which is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions (CASEL, 2022). Adam’s Elementary encourages the CASEL 5 framework which identifies 5 Core Competencies of SEL and developed those that fall within each of these competencies: Self-awareness, Self-management, Social awareness, Relationship skills and Responsible decision making.
