Flu Season is Here!

Influenza, Flu, is a respiratory virus that infects the nose,throat, and lungs. Influenza is contagious. Did you know even when you are feeling your best you can still spread the flu? You are contagious 1 day before symptoms begin and you are the most contagious 3 - 4 days after symptoms begin. The flu virus can be transmitted by tiny droplets that are infected with the virus. The droplets can land on doorknobs, shopping carts, your hands, etc.

The most common symptoms are listed below:

Fever
Chills
Body Aches
Runny or stuffy nose
Cough
Headache
Fatigue

Remember to always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Coughing or sneezing into your upper arm is also beneficial if a tissue isn't handy. Never share cups or used utensils. Stay home if you are sick and make sure to follow these steps in order to protect yourself and others from the flu virus!

Counselor's Corner

January is all about Perseverance. One way to think about Perseverance is “pushing yourself through challenges and obstacles.” We all experience challenges in our lives. We all have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up on a big task. It is important to develop tools that help us work through those challenges in order to grow in those moments instead of giving up.

Review Perseverance as a family! Remember that Perseverance is pushing yourself to work through challenges and obstacles. Here’s a fun challenge: Can you fit your whole body through an index card? While it sounds impossible, with the correct folding and cutting technique, you can make it happen! Give each family member a 4x6 index card and a pair of scissors. Ready for the answer?
