CCSD 89 families are invited to attend one of three upcoming focus group sessions to share their experiences and hopes for the future of the district’s advanced programming.

Families who want their child to attend preschool next school year can fill out a preschool application on Wednesday, January 15. All CCSD 89 students will be able to compete against classmates in the upcoming ‘Penny Wars’ fundraiser. From Wednesday, January 8, through Friday, January 17, there will be jars in each school to collect donations for Little City, an organization that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

If you enjoy working with kids and you’re looking for a job with good benefits, apply to be a classroom aide. Arbor View is hiring general-education and special-education aides. When school buildings need to close due to extreme weather, information will be released through a phone message, as well as the district’s website (www.ccsd89.org) and Facebook page (facebook.com/CCSD89). The district’s messaging system uses contact info supplied by guardians, so it is important you contact the school secretary and update your records if they have changed. Even when school is open, students should dress for the cold. Students will continue to go outside for recess as long as the weather remains above 10 degrees.

Students have been receiving and sending messages from family and friends during the school day. These messages disrupt the learning environment for your child, their classmates, and the teacher. If you need to reach your child during the day, please contact the main office.

Cell phones, smartwatches, and other electronic devices must be kept out of sight in a backpack, purse, or locker during the school day. If a student violates these rules, the device will be confiscated and there may be disciplinary action.

Please have a conversation at home about the appropriate use of technology at school and why it is important that students can focus on their learning. More information is available on page 42 of the Student/Parent Handbook, CCSD 89 Board of Education Policy 7:192 – Student Use of Mobile Telecommunication Devices, and Board Regulation 7:192-R.

Families should have a conversation at home about the importance of appropriately using the district's technology devices. Appropriate use includes: carrying the device carefully, keeping liquids away, and not leaving devices in areas with extreme heat or cold. Glen Crest Middle School will host sixth-grade orientation from 6 to 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. The evening will begin in the upper gym at Glen Crest with a presentation from the principal. Parents and students can then participate in guided tours of the building led by staff and students. The evening will conclude with a question-and-answer session with the principal.

Topics covered include: basic schedule information, core course offerings, exploratory course offering, clubs, sports, and parent communication opportunities.

Any over-the-counter medication including cough drops, antacids, and ointments, will not be administered by building nurses without doctor’s orders on file. A parent or guardian must bring the over-the-counter medication to the main office in the original container with the doctor’s note.
