Northwest High School Externship Program: Preparing Students for Future Careers
At Northwest High School, we believe in the power of real-world experience as a critical component of education. This trimester, we are proud to announce the participation of 10 of our students in our Externship Program. These students are gaining invaluable skills and knowledge by working with 8 different businesses in our community. Through this program, they are receiving on-the-job training that will set them up to launch successful careers immediately after graduation allowing them to work while furthering their education and training.
Real-World Experience
The Externship Program at Northwest High School is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. Students are placed with local businesses where they spend part of their week immersed in the working environment. This hands-on experience allows them to apply the theoretical knowledge they have gained in school to practical tasks, preparing them for the workforce.
Skill Development
The skills our students are acquiring through this program are diverse and tailored to their individual career interests. From technical skills in HVAC systems and insurance to soft skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, the Externship Program equips students with a comprehensive skill set that is highly valued by employers.
Business Partners
We are deeply grateful to the following businesses for their commitment to supporting our students and investing in the future of our community:
- Lammers Heating and Cooling: Offering hands-on experience in HVAC systems and maintenance.
- Richmond Insurance Agency: Educating students in insurance policies, claims, and customer service.
- Building Your Future LLC: Providing insights into construction management and project planning.
- Simpkins Bath and Kitchen LLC: Teaching skills related to home renovation and interior design.
- Vista Grand Villa: Exposing students to careers in elderly care and health services.
- Spring Arbor Assisted Living: Offering experience in assisted living operations and resident care.
- And Graphic Design experience working with our own Communications Department
The Externship Program at Northwest High School is a testament to our commitment to providing students with a holistic education. By collaborating with local businesses, we are able to offer our students a unique opportunity to gain practical experience, develop crucial skills, and explore potential career paths. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our business partners for their continued support and dedication to shaping the future of our students.
Together, we are building a stronger community and empowering the next generation of professionals.
