2025 Jefferson County Family Resource Center and Grace Klein 2025 food box distribution dates. As always, Bessemer is the 2nd Friday of every month and Birmingham is the 4th Friday of every month (with the exception of November and December. They always start at 1pm and end when we run out of boxes.

TRAINING for FOSTER/ADOPTION/KINSHIP FAMILIES (Aug. 23rd) Sponsored by Foster Coalition
Foster Coalition is working on a conference to be held August 23, 2025. There will be training for those who are interested in fostering/adopting/kinship care AND those who are already in the thick of those things. There will also be training for professionals who serve that community. Some topics: what you need to know before fostering/adopting, legal issues, aged out/aging out youth needs, and trauma informed care. More details to follow!

School Violence Prevention Program (200 Expected Awards) - Due June 18, 2025
SVPP funding will provide up to 75% funding for the following school safety measures in and around K-12 schools and school grounds: Coordination with law enforcement; Training for local law enforcement officers to prevent student violence against others and self; Metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other deterrent measures; Technology for expedited notification of local law enforcement during an emergency; and, any other measure that the COPS Office determines may provide a significant improvement in security. The following school safety measures are available through the School Violence Act of 2018: Development and operation of anonymous reporting systems (Hotlines, Internet websites, Mobile telephone applications), Development and operation of a school threat assessment, Specialized training for school officials in responding to mental health crises, Training for school personnel and students to prevent student violence against others and self, and any other measure the BJA determines may provide a significant improvement in security.
Sexual Assault Forensic Exam Hiring and Training Program (36 Expected Awards) - Due June 24, 2025
The Sexual Assault Forensic Exam (SAFE) Hiring and Training program supports efforts to establish or expand access to pediatric and/or adolescent/adult sexual assault forensic exams by funding the salaries of full- and part-time sexual assault nurse/forensic examiners (SANEs/SAFEs) providing forensic exams or serving as a regional preceptor or as a SANE/SAFE instructor.
The Rural Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program (Rural Program) enhances the safety of rural victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking by supporting projects uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes in rural areas. This program supports cooperative efforts among law enforcement officers, prosecutors, victim service providers, and other related parties to investigate and prosecute sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking; treatment, advocacy, counseling, legal assistance, or other victim services for victims in rural communities; or programs addressing sexual assault.
The Grants to Prevent and Respond to Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, Stalking, and Sex Trafficking Against Children and Youth Program supports comprehensive, community-based efforts to develop or expand prevention, intervention, treatment, and response strategies to address the needs of children and youth (ages 0-24) impacted by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sex trafficking.
Grants to Improve the Criminal Justice Response Program (35 Expected Awards) - Due June 16, 2025
The Grants to Improve the Criminal Justice Response Program assists state, local, and Tribal governments, and courts to improve the criminal justice response to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking as serious violations of criminal law, and to seek safety and autonomy for victims.
The OVW Transitional Housing Assistance Grants for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking Program funds transitional housing and support services for victims who are homeless or in need of transitional housing or other housing assistance as a result of a situation of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
