Principal Tucci's January Newsletter
Happy New Year!
Dear McGlynn Middle School Community,
I hope that everyone in our school community had a very enjoyable holiday season. While students and staff all appreciated the extended break, it was certainly exciting to welcome the students back to school in the new year of 2025!
Believe it or not, we are coming up on the midpoint of the school year. 2nd quarter will close on January 22nd. At this point in the school year, we have hit a solid stride; students know the routines and expectations and are often the most engaged and motivated during these next few months. It is very important that students are attending school every day and are on time for their learning. Next week, I will be delivering the Mid Year Principal Assembly to all grade levels. The message will be centered around the importance of regular school attendance, goal setting/achieving, healthy habits such as getting proper sleep and monitoring/limiting screen time in order to be successful.
Prior to the December vacation, all students took the second round (out of 3) of the NWEA MAP Assessments. These assessments are a tool that we use to in order to precisely establish our students' instructional levels and identify areas to focus on for academic growth. Next week, you will receive your child's MAP scores in the mail. If you have any questions about your child's MAP scores, please do not hesitate to reach out to your students' teachers or myself.
I wish you and your families a very happy and healthy 2025!

Inventing Samanta
Students in grade 6-8 had the opportunity to watch a production from Central Square Theater titled "Inventing Samantha" this past Wednesday. Central Square Theater, working in collaboration with MIT, developed this production to investigate social issues relevant to young people, and inspire them to make a difference in their communities. The play followed a group of very different high school students coming together to learn about the process and creativity of becoming an inventor and why – despite age, identity, or background – everyone can be an inventor.
Congrats to the Girls Basketball Team on their recent victory over Somerville!
Free English Classes for Adults at Tufts University
Over the course of the past few months, we have been working with our partners at Tufts University to develop free English class workshops for adults. These workshops will take place at Tufts University in Medford on Sunday evenings. One course will be geared toward adult English language learners who are beginners and another course will be designed for intermediate level learners.
Childcare for school-aged children will be provided and pizza will be served during the classes.
If you have an adult-aged family member(s) who is interested in taking these free English classes at Tufts University, please register by clicking below.
