Woonsocket Hosts Regional Education Workshop Focused on Student Success
I am proud to share that this week, Woonsocket proudly hosted over 40 district leaders from across Rhode Island and Connecticut and RIDE for a dynamic “Why Workshop” in partnership with Instructional Empowerment (IE). Led by CEO Michael D. Toth and our district team, the event focused on our shared commitment to student-centered learning and the power of academic teaming.
Throughout the day, participants explored inspiring student success stories, engaged with practical strategies to elevate classroom instruction, and collaborated around how to create classrooms where every student is empowered to think, lead, and learn deeply. We’re grateful to all who joined us and proud to showcase how Woonsocket continues to lead the way in meaningful, student-driven education.
Sincerely,
Patrick McGee, Ed.D.
Superintendent

WMS student's celebrated National Law Day
May 1st was National Law Day. National Law Day is celebrated yearly in the US and is intended to emphasize the rule of law and to how the legal system contributes to a free society. It is also an opportunity for our students to learn more about civics and the impact it has on community and society.
At Woonsocket Middle School, iExplore teacher and social studies teacher, Toni Marie Campopiano has been celebrating this day with her students for more than 20 years. This year she and her students were the recipients of a presentation and Q & A session from the Magistrate of the Woonsocket Tribunal Court as well as a local attorney.
Our students did an excellent job of asking very intuitive questions. She and their guests were very impressed with the questions the students asked. Our guests did a wonderful job answering the students' questions in depth and adding more information where they felt needed. Some questions ranged from, Is your job stressful? Who inspired you to become a Judge or Lawyer? What happens when your client says something inappropriate? What was your worst case? What case do you remember the most? Do you make mistakes? How much money do you make? I can't wait until next year!!!
Congratulations to Ms. Campopiano and her students for taking part in such an important civic opportunity!

WED Competencies for Success
At this week’s Why Workshop, our Innovation Specialists, Instructional Coaches and partner classroom teachers proudly shared how they’ve been integrating the Model of Instruction with Woonsocket’s Competencies for Success. Through powerful classroom examples and team reflections, participants saw how academic teaming and student-centered strategies are helping students build the skills they need to think critically, communicate effectively, and take ownership of their learning. We're excited to continue growing this work in partnership with educators across the region.
