News from WI Alpha Delta Kappa
October 2024
I chose the theme "Flying Together" for the 2024-2026 biennium. Geese are our guiding force behind this theme. They fly further together, support each other when things are tough, take turns leading, cheer progress and are loyal to their purpose. These characteristics follow the guiding principles of Alpha Delta Kappa.

Enjoying a meal after all their hard work!
The state executive board met on October 11 to begin the process of updating the WI Policies and Procedures. Everyone prepared ahead of time for any changes to their specific area. This greatly helped us be able to accomplish most of the task. At the January board meeting, we will complete the final few sections.
The following day, we met again for the state executive board meeting. Information regarding business discussed follows in this newsletter.
SUPPORTING EACH OTHER
Disaster Relief
Many Alpha Delta Kappa members have been affected by the recent hurricanes. At the state executive board meeting, $300 was collected to be donated to the AΔK Foundation Disaster Relief Fund. Any member can make a donation to this fund on the International website. Once you are logged in, click on the Foundation tab and follow the directions.
Alpha Delta Kappa Month
During the month of October, chapters celebrate the founding members of Alpha Delta Kappa. Chapter AΔK Month chairs should submit their chapter report to Marilyn Thompson by November 22 at randmthompson@sbcgolbal.net. Chapter activity photos should be sent to Kim Gloede at kim.gloede@gmail.com.
Kathryn Saunders Grant
The AdHoc grant committee chose Racine Alternative Learning as the recipient of the 2024 Kathryn Saunders Grant. The application was submitted by the WI Tau chapter. The $400 award will be used to buy supplies to create a mural for the entry hallway. It will be painted on a mobile background which will follow the school in the event of a move.
Alpha Delta Kappa Dues
It's that time of year! Your membership dues can be paid to your chapter treasurer, which will include $40 for International dues, $15 for WI state dues, and an additional amount for chapter dues. The International portion of your dues will be forwarded to International by the chapter treasurer. You can also pay your International dues of $40 online. Sustaining sisters have been contacted by Marlea Steiner, WI State Treasurer, about their dues. The deadline is December 31, 2024.
WI state dues go toward the Kathryn Saunders grant, the Ernella Hunziker grant, the Excellence in Education award and expenses of the state executive board.
TAKE TURNS LEADING
President Elect Needed
WI Alpha Delta Kappa is in need of a member or members to step forward for the position of president elect/co-president elect. The 2024-2026 biennium provides a plethora of support and trainings for this position. I can speak from experience, that the knowledge shared through these trainings has greatly helped me to be prepared for the state president position. If you would be interested in learning more about this position and its possibilities, please reach out to me: joannemloy@gmail.com
Excellence in Education Chair
Angela Steinmetz, our 2024 Excellence in Education award winner from Nu chapter, has agreed to be the 2024-2026 biennium Excellence in Education committee chair. She and I will work closely together to find a candidate to represent Wisconsin at the 2026 Regional Conference. Thank you, Angela, for taking a turn leading this committee!
CHEER PROGRESS
School staff and Omicron members
International Program
Omicron members
At the Back to School teacher gathering for the Monroe schools, WI Omicron members provided goodies and information about Alpha Delta Kappa. What an excellent way to promote membership!
Chapter Needs Assessment
Congratulations to all Wisconsin chapters for submitting their CNA's to International on time! Our Regional President, Jennie Johnson, and Regional Vice President for Membership, Ann Ainslie, and I, your state president, are very appreciative of all the time and effort put into completing this report. Please refer to the CNA as a guide for your chapter during the biennium.
Audit/Budget
A big THANK YOU to Theresa Ness, Zeta and Kim Gloede, Tau for stepping up to assist WI State Treasurer Marlea Steiner with the audit for the past year. There is a need for a chair of the Audit/Budget committee for this biennium. The position requires a meeting once a year with the state treasurer to review the financial documents and complete an audit. If you are interested, please let me know.

Featured Chapter
Zeta Chapter
Alpha Delta Kappa Wisconsin Zeta Chapter in Kenosha began in the living room of Ione Kramer in 1957 where 16 teachers met to begin a new ADK Chapter. One of those initial members from 67 years ago, Gail Gillmore, is a current Zeta member! Over the years Zeta members have been very involved in ADK at the state level, including 5 state presidents:
Gail Gillmore in the 1970-1972 biennium, Jean Ryan in 2000-2002, Faith Pfeiffer in 2010-2012, Gayle Collins in 2018-2020, and most recently Theresa Ness in 2022-2024.
Zeta Chapter has always valued altruism, whether that is World Understanding projects such as supporting schools in Vietnam, Peru, and Haiti; or the Little Dresses Project where 66 dresses were sewn from t-shirts, pillow cases, and fabric remnants and sent to Africa, Haiti, and as flood relief to some southern states; or helping to construct food packs for shipment throughout the world with Feed My Starving Children. Locally Zeta has contributed volunteer hours and funds to numerous projects like the Frank School Neighborhood Project, the Shalom Center Food Pantry, Women and Children’s Horizons, Kenosha Literacy Center, Grace Welcome Center, and assisting our working Zeta teachers, to name a few. In addition, Zeta offers a yearly scholarship to college juniors or seniors working on a degree in the education field.
At this time, Zeta has 30 members who continue to be dedicated to educational excellence, altruism, world understanding, and supporting each other through fellowship and sisterhood.
