Monthly Communication
for Continuous Improvement and State & Federal Programs
August 2021
Welcome to the monthly Continuous Improvement and State & Federal Programs communication. The purpose is to contextualize Continuous Improvement into our daily work, to efficiently complete all State and Federal Program tasks, and to promote moving these tasks past simple compliance.
This communication is sent to administrators in Congressional District 2, but is applicable statewide. If this was forwarded to you, you are welcome to subscribe.

- MICIP plan "due" September 1 -The Revised School Code indicates that plans must be “available to the department” not later than September 1 each year. Note: there is no submit button. Just have everything complete in your portfolio.
- Team Make-Up - August is the time to get your Continuous Improvement teams and meeting dates set for the year.
- MDE Continuous Improvement Conference - Registration is now open.
- MICIP Collaboration Series Resources - (Almost) Everything you need to know about MICIP!

Consolidated App Update
It is looking more and more like the Consolidated App in NexSys will not be available until September 2021. Make sure you are completing all of your planning now so that you can easily complete the process when it is released.
- Get your NexSys account ready: Getting Connected to NexSys in MILOGIN for Third Party
- Get your budgets approved: Use this Budget Spreadsheet from MDE. I recommend making a different sheet or tab for each funding source. Since you're doing it for all your federal funds, why not do it for 31a, too? Once the budgets are complete, send to your OES rep and seek written approval.
- But...how will I know what to allocate to each building if I don't have the TISS? By request, here is a very rough estimator for Title I building allocations. Just use this for planning purposes; it does not replicate the TISS process.
More info:
- You will have 30 business days to complete the consolidated app once it is released.
- You will have an obligation date of July 1 as long as you have submitted your budgets ahead of time and been in good communication with OES.
- Funds aren't ever available for drawdown until October anyway, so no one is missing out on any funding at this point.
ESSER II and III - Everything you didn't even know to ask!
Here is a presentation from Kevin Walters (MDE) on ESSER II and III. This might be good to share with and review with your business office. There is quite a bit of info here that I have not seen anywhere else. Recommended reading.
