Hello Levelland Lobos! Welcome back. I hope you enjoyed your long weekend.
Congratulations to Cristal Isaacks for being recognized by the Chamber as the Educational Professional of the Year. Cristal does so many amazing things for, not only Levelland ISD, but also Levelland. Cristal received a second recognition as the Chamber Ambassador of the Year. Thank you Cristal for truly loving Levelland ISD and the exceptional way you make our students and staff feel special and appreciated. You always Expect Excellence!
Go Lobos.

Around LISD......
What happens when two CTE classes come together? Vital signs! Mr. Scott Lawson's Career Prep Class was visited by Mrs. Joan Sanders' Patient Care students late last week. It was a mixture of digital marketing along with pulse rates, blood pressure, and body temperature! Thank you to both classes for connecting, and to the Career Prep Class for putting together this video! Watch the Career Prep video here: https://files.gabbart.com/455/hosaproject.mp4
Entrepreneurs Spend Their Money
LHS educator Mr. Hill held the first auction in his entrepreneur class last Friday. Students had been "working" and "earning" entrepreneur money all year, leading up to this day. The students were very engaged and excited as they tried to outbid each other on some desired items. As their store begins to earn some profits, they will use some of the funds to purchase better items for the monthly auctions. Students earn money for the auction by working in the store and contributing to the classroom marketplace through discussion, ideas, and other actions that add value to our group. Students are learning about value, work ethic, business management, and teamwork through the school store project: Los Lobos. Their store is adding kettle corn, cheddar corn, and theatre corn to the menu next week and will soon be adding coffee and hot chocolate. The store is also now accepting Cash App and Venmo in addition to cash. They will have several items available for the Pink Out Pep Rally on Thursday. The store is open 30 minutes before school and 30 minutes after school each day. This is a great hands-on learning for students to use after high school!
PR Specialist Honored by Chamber
Levelland ISD Public Relations Specialist Cristal Isaacks received the Chamber Ambassador of the Year and was just thrilled with that. But then she was surprised to receive the second honor of being named Educational Professional of the Year as well. Cristal says, "I am truly humbled by the kindness bestowed upon me and feel privileged to be in the category with these amazing Levelland Volunteers who make Levelland a great place to live. Thank you to those who nominated me. Thank you to the Chamber for recognizing me! This means so much to me and inspires me to show up more, be there more, and do more for my Levelland community and Levelland ISD."
Engaging Math
Single-step word problems are a thing of the past for 5th-grade math students in Mrs. Randi Vidales' math class. Mrs. Vidales #expectsexcellence and her students were caught working in small groups to discuss how to solve challenging, multi-step word problems by debating, evaluating, and creating numerical expressions to solve the problems together. Students used the Read, Draw, Write method to figure out what exactly the question was asking them to find & to come up with the correct solution. Great job kids! Thank you, Mrs. Vidales for this engaging math lesson!
Capitol STEM Fitness
Capitol Elementary held their Family Fitness Night last week, and tied in STEM with the activities. Mrs. Sanders had 4th Graders at each fitness station teaching the parents & students about the STEM behind the physical fitness activity and how to do it! Thank you Mrs. Sanders, for always having the most amazing thinking & moving activities! Mrs. Runkles still has it too!
LMS Fall Choir Concert
LMS Choir students performed their Fall Choir Concert last night under the direction of LMS Choir Director Joshua Ballard. It was beautiful! Great job kids!
Cookies!
After a week of anticipation, our Lobo Diner Chefs know how well they did at the South Plains Fair in the Cookie Contest. Mrs. Melissa Young's Lobo Diner cooking class students read, measured, mixed, and baked their favorite cookie for the South Plains Fair contest. They were excited to find out that they "fared" well! They received blue, red and white ribbons before getting to experience the other Fair events. We send out a huge thank you to Mrs. Young and Mrs. Burt for helping these students leave high school with a skill! This class is amazing on so many levels! https://files.gabbart.com/456/lobo_diner_cookies.mp4
You Mean You Want Tax?
Coach Whitney Gibson #expectsexcellence and LHS students in her Math classes were learning to shop on a budget. Mrs. Gibson prepared a shopping spree for her students so that they could learn to purchase carefully. Students had to compare prices and even had a coupon to throw into the mix. That sounded easy until they had to add tax! Not only did these students learn about real-life situations and decisions, but they also learned math! Great learning experience, Coach Gibson!
Titrition!
It's pink-out month, and what better way to show pink than with titration? LHS students in Mrs. Merribeth Gregory's Chemistry Class were caught determining the molar mass by titration. The goal is to have a light pink color and it is a super tedious lab. Titration is a technique where a solution of known concentration is used to determine the concentration of an unknown solution. Wow! These students are so smart! Thank you, Mrs. Gregory, for the great learning labs!
Crime Scene!
Every year we catch LHS students in Coach Munoz's Forensic Science Classes outside investigating a fake crime scene. These students are collecting evidence to solve the investigation that Coach Munoz planned for them. Lucky students in these classes learn to have a keen observation of details, learn critical thinking, and great decision-making. Thank you, Coach Munoz, for leading these awesome students in a class that will open doors for them after high school.
LOC Honored
The Levelland Opportunity Center took their students out to eat at the Plaza in Lubbock to reward them for their hard work! They were also able to utilize communication skills learned in class to properly order independently from a restaurant menu. After the meal, four students were awarded employee of the month for both August and September. The job coaches select Employees of the Month for students who demonstrate various job skills above and beyond what’s expected of them! The LOC department thanks the job coaches Abby Luna, Callie Wheeler, Alejandra Segura, and Avery VanZandt for all their hard work teaching students various job skills in the community. Great job kids!
LISD Board Treated
Our Levelland Board of Trustees was honored with ABC students opening their meeting last week with the Pledge of Allegiance and with a delicious meal prepared by the LHS BBQ Team. Thank you to Mrs. Howard, Mr. Burton and Mrs. Oaks for helping pull off a great event at the LISD Board Meeting! We always #expectexcellence and are looking for leaders. We are happy to see leaders in LISD both young and old!
Community Based Instruction Trip
LHS educators Mrs. Dilly, Mrs. Colunga, and Mrs. Bell took their students to their very first Community-Based Instruction trip. CBI allows for students to go to various places around the community and implement various skills, such as communication and social skills taught in the classroom. Today, they enjoyed Braums Ice Cream! The LOC department & SPECO appreciate these educators for all their hard work! The smiles on the kids faces speak for the fun that had!
Pink Out!
Pink-Out Day came and went! Coach Northcutt & the LHS Cheerleaders share these photos from their annual mini cheer camp last weekend. These future cheerleaders learned a cheer, chant, and dance! They performed at the pep rally and during halftime at the football game on Friday! Coach Northcutt & Cheer would like to send a huge thank you to everyone who attended to them raise $1,200 for breast cancer research! Please send a shout-out to Marcos Pena from Mr. Lawson's Career Prep Class for making this awesome graphic as well!

Roles Reversed!
LHS is so proud that the Cheer Squad and the Lobos made the extra effort to support our Lobo Band members at their UIL Marching Contest yesterday. Our Band members truly appreciated the support from the stands as roles were reversed in the support of our LHS community! They send out a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support them!
