Can you believe the 2022-2023 school year is over already? This year was certainly a fast one. I wanted to take a moment to thank our student body, our staff, and our families for their support this year. Education is a shared responsibility and each of us play a critical role in helping students succeed in the classroom. Thank you for the role you have played to make this year a great one for our Rockland students. And to our students, staff and families, I hope everyone enjoys the summer- unwind, spend time with family and friends, read a book, play outside with friends, and rest...you deserve it.

We will see you all on Wednesday, August 30th, for the first day of school :)

Term 4, Final Exam, Semester 2/Final Grades will be available on Aspen starting in the late afternoon on Friday, June 16th.

As a reminder, teachers are off for the summer starting this Friday, June 16th. Guidance counselors are available Tuesday next week and can assist students and families in registering for summer school. Information on summer school is enclosed within this weekly update.

Summer School will be offered virtually this year through Edgenuity. Students will not need to come to the school building to complete summer school courses.

Courses will begin on Monday, June 26th and the course completion deadline will be Tuesday, August 8th.

Students MUST have a final average of 50 in a course to be eligible for summer school.

Cost per course: $100.00 per course; $50.00/per course for students who receive free/reduced lunch.

Should a student fail a course for the year, the Guidance counselor will reach out to the student/family once they have final grades (beginning on June 20th) to discuss options.

Summer Reading 2023

Students are encouraged to participate in summer reading prior to the start of the 2023-2024 school year. Selected titles, listed below, are available digitally via Sora. All students have access to Sora; if you need help logging into your account, please review these log in instructions. Rockland Memorial Library will have these titles available in print.

Students who participate are asked to read one of these titles, assume the role of their favorite character, and complete these Google Slides. Please make a copy of these slides to edit. The slides mimics a popular social media platform and should be edited to include the following components:

• Character name

• Username

• Profile Quote taken from the book that reflects your character’s identity

• Five (5) posts that your character would post that include:

• Images reflecting an important scene in the book

• Images reflecting your character’s personality

• Hashtags explaining the images

• Responses from other character to your characters posts

Students will use Canva to design their images and finish the assignment on the linked Google Slides. Completed assignments should be emailed to jkemp@rocklandschools.org by September 15th.

All students who complete the summer reading assignment are invited to participate in a Library Takeover! Students will be called down September 28th during Dog Block to participate in a book chat and see their posts on display! We will discuss and critique the titles.

Special thanks to the Massachusetts Cultural Council for making the STARS grant opportunity possible this year and to our guest, RISD artist Johnny Adimando, who taught our students basic silk screening techniques and how to apply it to 3D, Digital and Digital Art.

Thank you to our Athletic Booster Parent volunteers for hosting a cookout at the spring banquet on Tuesday, June 13th. Congratulations to all of our student-athletes and our coaches for a fun spring!

The RHS Fitness Center is open this summer, free of charge, to our students.
