Keeping Us Connected Throughout the School Year
THIS WEEK AT WASHINGTON OAK
- We had another busy week at Washington Oak. Everyone came back from break smiling and well rested. I heard lots of storie about trips, camp and outside fun.
- There was a lot of learning taking place this week. Students in grades 3-5 are preparing for their math RICAS testing along with all of their other learning. Students in grades Pre-K -2 also worked hard and some classes did some outdoor explorations.
- On Tuesday Mrs. Bogdon and I will enjoy a pizza lunch with all of the winners from the SurveyWorks raffle. We will announce them Monday morning and then send an email to those families.
- The only RICAS testing this week is on Wednessday for grade 4 math. Please make every attempt to have your child in school on that day.
- Thank you to all of the families who have volunteered to help at the Wallaby School Store on Monday. If you have not signed up and are able to help you can sign up here. Washington Oak PTO: Wallaby Store on Mon. 4.28 )

Thank you !
Our martial arts students thanked Sensei Dan from North East Family Martial Arts with a placque Friday afternoon. He has taught all of our children important life lessons, and thanks to his generosity, we are able to have a scholarship for students who are unable to pay for any afterschool activity to join.

Parking Reminders
As our weather is warming up the ground is getting softer and more muddy, especially on the side of the building for preschool and the far lot. Please make every effort to park in a parking spot (not on the yellow curb), as we have had a couple cars get stuck in the mud recently. Park at your own risk.
WASHINGTON OAK SPIRITWEAR
If you have not already done so, don't forget to use your coupon code and order something for your child from the spiritwear shop. New items will be added periodically and others will go on sale. It is great seeing so much of it around the building !
RICAS TESTING INFORMATION
It is hard to believe that RICAS has arrived. Here is the schedule so that you can try to work any appointments around your child's testing days. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
WHY ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Strengthened Peer Relationships
“Attending school regularly enhances social connections with peers, helping children build stronger relationships that contribute to their overall emotional well-being and academic success” (Ladd & Price, 1987).
Overall Success
Attending school every day is a key factor in a student’s overall success. Every day they attend, they take another step towards reaching their academic potential and building skills they’ll need for the future" (U.S. Department of Education)
September 2024
Increased Opportunities for Enrichment
“Students with consistent attendance are more likely to participate in extracurricular activities and enrichment programs, which provide opportunities for growth beyond the classroom” (Reynolds et al., 2010).
Presence = Thriving Success
“Chronic absenteeism, even in kindergarten, can have long-term effects on a child's math and literacy learning. Ensuring that children are present early on sets them up for a more successful academic future and helps them thrive socially” (Ohio State University)

Nurse's News
If your child is sick please reach out to the nurse and let her know. We understand that each illness does not warrant a doctor visit.
If a child has COVID symptoms they will need to be picked up.
(Testing requirements will be provided prior to school).
GI symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea require dismissal and your child must be free of symptoms for at least 24 hours prior to return to school.
A fever is defined as 100.4 degrees or higher and a student must be fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever reducing medicines like Tylenol or Ibuprofen in order to return to school.
If your student tests positive-they will need to stay home for at least 5 days from either symptom onset or the test date if they were asymptomatic.
They may return when symptoms have improved and have had no fever for 24 hours (without the use of any medicine)
They will need to wear a well fitting mask when they return through day 10.
Please report all test results to the school nurse.
Teachers have been given a letter to share with you if your child's class has a severe nut allergy and must remain peanut and tree free. Please remember that they may have it in the lunchroom.
