KILLAM PUBLIC SCHOOL
May 3, 2024
Treaty Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that Killam Public School is on Treaty 6 territory - the ancestral and traditional land of many Indigenous groups. We are grateful for the animals, the water and the forests that provide us with many resources we use each day. We are thankful for the diverse opportunities that this land offers. We respect the land in which we gather on today.

LOST & FOUND
Please have your child(ren) look through the Lost & Found at the school. There are a lot of items accumulating. There are shoes, water bottles, hoodies, etc. We will be taking items to the Twice Nice in the middle of the month.
Town Clean-up
Thank you to all our student volunteers who helped with town clean-up on May 1st and 2nd. Without volunteers, we wouldn’t have many of our sports teams or community events. Supporting students to participate in Town Clean-up is one way students engage with the curriculum and practice real-life skills.
Kindergarten kids doing their part to help clean the town!!
Safety
With the spring weather, it is great to see so many students riding bikes to school. Please remind your child to wear a proper fitting helmet when biking. Not only is it the law for children under 18, but a helmet protects the child’s brain in an unexpected accident. Thank you for helping keep your children safe!
There has been an increase in the number of students selling or attempting to sell food (candy) and other items at school and on the bus for personal gain. This practice is not allowed as it can pose an unanticipated risk. For example, a student with allergies buys and consumes something that could cause a reaction which could result in dire circumstances. Please have a conversation with your child(ren) about why we do not sell items at school.
Care Closet
Our Care Closet is full of personal hygiene and clothing items. Please let us help your family with some of these items. We have lots of deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap and shampoo. Please let us know if we can send some home with your child.
Transportation Information for next years students
Do you have a Grade 9 student who will need bussing next year? Do you have a new kindergarten student? You need to register for bussing!
Bus registration for the 2024/25 school year is now open until 4 p.m. on June 27, 2024.
Parents with bus students need to register only if this is the first time that their child(ren) will be riding a BRSD school bus, such as new students beginning Kindergarten or grade 10 students who don't normally ride the bus but will be taking the transfer bus to Sedgewick.
Applications for school of choice/cross boundary transportation are now available on the BRSD Website.
For more details and eligibility information, please visit our website.
Kindergarten Success Starts Early Events
We are planning a Success Starts Early Event At KPS for our new kindergarten students and their families to connect with support people within our division and community. The hope is that this event will reduce student anxiety over the summer and get them excited about their first days in school.
The idea is that families and students will come together and get to meet some school staff and learn about some of the programs Battle River School Division offers. There will be stations in the gym that the kids will get to go through. We want to get to know your child as a learner and identify any possible support that might be required to ensure that the upcoming school year is as successful as possible.
This event will be held on May 13th from 10:00- 3:00. We are scheduling times for each student so they have individual time with our team and at each station. You can anticipate being at the event for about 45 minutes. Please contact Mrs. Brodie to book your time!
It's Planning Time!!
We are beginning to plan for next year. If you know a family that is new to Killam, has a kindergarten student not in preschool or a child that is planning to return to KPS (after a year away), please encourage them to contact the school to get information about registration. Knowing who will be attending next year helps us to most effectively plan for the upcoming school year and ensure supports that are needed are in place.
