MAGICAL MONDAY PROGRAM

Magical Monday kicked off with an exciting celebration of Cinco de Mayo across all the campuses. Each school had a unique set of culture-enriched activities for the students to participate in. At the Hunt library, incoming second-grade students and their parents gathered to go over the various activities and events available for the incoming students. The school nurses also held an educational training session for the community members on how to perform Stop The Bleed. Hunt Library hosted a STEM showcase allowing fourth and fifth-grade students to impress everyone with their excellent STEM skills and projects. The students put in a lot of effort and hard work into their projects, and it showed in the quality of their work. For the last Magical Monday of the year, all the campuses went all out with different events to mark the end of the year. Students enjoyed engaging games, root beer floats, an escape room, and a movie night. It was a great way to end the year, and everyone had a fantastic time.

JOHN C. FRENCH:

John C French School celebrated Cinco de Mayo with various activities that were both educational and enriching. The students engaged in reading "Cinco de Mayo/Dragons Loves Tacos", a book that explores the cultural significance of the holiday, and created paper tacos as an art project, allowing them to express their creativity in a fun and interactive way. Alongside this, they played Loteria, a traditional Mexican game that involves matching pictures, and enjoyed a nacho party, where they indulged in delicious nachos with their friends. Additionally, they read "I Can READ With My Eyes Shut!" and made bookmarks or books, honing their reading skills and developing their artistic abilities. The students also participated in engaging STEM games such as Marble Run and Geoboards, which allowed them to apply their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math in a fun and engaging way. To conclude this memorable Monday, they read "Summer Safety. Reading is FUN!", a book that reinforced the importance of safety measures and the joy of reading. The students also celebrated the end of the school year with games on the courtyard patio, where they had a chance to unwind and enjoy each other's company, and cupcakes and drinks, a sweet way to commemorate the end of a successful academic year.

HUNT ELEMENTARY:

The Cinco de Mayo festivities at our school's Magical Monday event were a resounding success. Students had a blast crafting their own mini pinatas, participating in a reading session of "Cinco de Mayo," and enjoying a scrumptious nacho party. Additionally, incoming 2nd-grade students had a special meeting with Ms. Cerny to discover the exciting opportunities that await them at Hunt. Throughout the month, the Magical Monday events continued with a reading of "The Little Red Fort" and engaging activities involving Play-Doh and Legos. The fourth and fifth-grade students wowed everyone with their exceptional STEM projects. The final Magical Monday celebration at Hunt was a delightful end-of-year affair, featuring entertaining end-of-year centers and providing popcorn and snacks for everyone to savor.

CUERO JR. HIGH SCHOOL:

Cuero Junior High began their Magical Monday by commemorating Cinco De Mayo with an entertaining children's Spanish version of bingo. The students also engaged in a variety of captivating activities, including painting figurines, crafting pottery, and enjoying delicious nachos. The Cuero ISD nursing staff provided valuable training to community members on Stop The Bleed techniques. Additionally, students were given the opportunity to exhibit their creativity by designing diamond art bracelets and stickers. The culminating event of Magical Monday featured a diverse range of activities, such as relishing root beer floats, participating in STEM and board games, and taking on a summer Escape Room challenge. During this challenge, students put their problem-solving skills to the test and successfully broke out of the library into summer.

CUERO HIGH SCHOOL:

Cuero High School's Magical Monday was a day filled with vibrant activities and celebrations. Magical Monday started with a lively celebration of Cinco de Mayo, where students showed their creativity by crafting beautiful and colorful fiesta tissue flowers. The festivities continued with a fun and educational game of kid Spanish Bingo, which added an exciting learning aspect to the day. Following this, was a festive nacho party, where students enjoyed delicious nachos while immersing themselves in the spirit of the day. As part of the month-long celebration, students also participated in creating thoughtful Father’s Day Make & Take Gifts, showcasing their creativity and expressing their appreciation for their fathers. Additionally, students had the opportunity to explore their artistic talents by painting spring canvas designs, adding a touch of color and creativity to the school environment. The enchanting tradition of Magical Monday culminated with an unforgettable End-of-Year Party. Students came together for a delightful treat of indulgent root beer floats, adding a nostalgic and celebratory touch to the event. The party also featured a captivating movie night, providing students with the opportunity to relax and enjoy a film together. To complement the movie experience, an array of popcorn and snacks was provided, creating a festive and enjoyable atmosphere, and marking a perfect end to the school year.

EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM:

We had an exciting month of May filled with interactive classes and new friendships! Parents and children participated in various activities including story time, sing-along songs and dance, and crafts.


Children were encouraged to practice their fine motor skills with activities such as sticker placement, shoelace threading, and tong sorting. On craft days, kids got to choose their craft based on their individual interests. The station-based free play allowed children to explore their creativity by role-playing, creating with Play-Doh, discovering with puzzles, and building with blocks.


We have 6 participants who are graduating from our program as they will be starting school in the fall. Good luck to our little Gobblers! A big Gobbler thank you to their awesome families for participating. This program is FREE for all families with children ages 0-4.

BOOK DISTRIBUTION & COMMUNITY OUTREACH:

Cuero ISD is committed to promoting literacy and a love for reading among all members of the community. As part of this effort, the district offered free books to families visiting the Cuero Medical Clinic and Parkside Family Clinic. The initiative was a great success, and families were thrilled to have access to a wide range of age-appropriate books. The bookshelves in the waiting rooms were stocked with a variety of books ranging from 0 to pre-K level, providing families with plenty of options to choose from. The district also offered families the opportunity to register for the Imagination Library and sign up for information about the Cuero ISD Early Learning Program.


Several different community outreach efforts were undertaken to promote literacy and education. The distribution of books, book markers, and the provision of an opportunity to sign up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library are effective ways to inculcate a love for reading and learning among students. Such initiatives can have a positive impact on the overall development of children and their academic progress.


Overall, the book distribution program was a great success, and we are proud to be able to provide free resources to families in our community. Over 2,330 books were distributed during the month of May for children and their families to start or add to their very own personal library!

  • Early Learning Program (children ages 0-3): 261 Books

LIBRARY SUMMER CAMP INVENTION 2024

The six-weeks summer Camp Invention 2024 is in full swing. Camp for grades 4-5 begins next week. It's not too late to register your student. Click HERE to register online or stop by the campus library. Summer Camp Invention dates are:

  • Hunt Elementary for grades 2-3 - June 3 through June 13 (two weeks)
  • Hunt Elementary for grades 4-5 - June 17 through June 27 (two weeks)
  • Cuero High School for grades 6-11 - June 3 through June 20 (three weeks)
