A Word from the Head of School
Hey BCS Family,
Over the last several weeks we have been flooded with tours on our campus, and we have gotten to meet some incredible families looking to join in with the BCS community here. During these interview sessions we cover all the great things that BCS has to offer. We discuss the incredible and qualified teaching staff we have here, the academically rigorous curriculum we have, the high standards held, the accountability we have from both the parents and the ACSI organization, the several extracurricular activities we have available, and most importantly, we cover the reasons why new families are interested in BCS.
One final matter that has gotten discussed in conversation of late, has centered around the school choice movement in the Texas legislature, and where this path is headed moving forward. For those new to the discussion, over the last two years, the state of Texas and many others (Tennessee is currently dealing with similar stalemates on this topic), have gone into debate about the implementation of a funding system to where parents can access allotted funds to use toward the school of choice for their child. There are over 30 other states with an implemented school choice program, with both Florida and Iowa most recently unrolling a universal school choice plan for all families to participate in. This has been a very contentious debate in the Texas legislative section, and a conversation that warranted called special sessions this last year. It was at this final vote where 21 House Republicans voted against the school choice move forward and caused the mass education bill in motion to drop completely.
From this point, Governor Abbott, a strong supporter for the School Choice move in Texas, has made it a point to begin backing with verbal support and financial resourcing, those running for elected positions in favor of school choice against the 21 House Republicans that voted the school choice move down. As has been communicated to me, of those 21 house members, 6 did not even run for re-election, 6 were beaten in the primaries and replaced with school choice advocates, and 4 are currently in run-offs in late May. As was stated from the Texas Private School Association, it is looking very favorable for a return proposal of school choice this next year with a strong possibility of something passing.
We will keep everyone up to speed with any movements surrounding this Texas legislature move as it progresses, and we will be prudently and diligently working through the implementation of this if it suits the best interests of BCS moving forward, should a school choice bill pass.
Grace and peace,
Skyler Sikes

Great job, ladies!
Callie Listak was a Strive 2 Drive Finalist through Brazosport College and the dual credit program.
BC recently posted this about Callie, "Callie is from Lake Jackson, Texas. She is a dual credit student who plans to continue her education at Blinn, where she will obtain a degree as a Radiologic Technologist. According to Callie, the best part of Brazosport College is how accessible everything is. "I live close by and when I need to talk to one of my professors, is isn’t a hassle, and they’re always willing to help. This year I started going to the writing center, and I have seen improvement not only in my English grades, but in my writing technique as well by my instructors. Everyone has gone above and beyond to get me prepared for the field," says Callie.
We are proud of you, Callie!
