A Message from the Administrative Team
Dear WJHS Families,
A few years ago our Student Council asked to bring back Halloween costumes to WJHS, and so far it has been a hit! Students are again invited to wear costumes to school on Halloween (which is an early release day), following the expectations which are listed below. To assist you in helping your child decide on a costume, should they choose to wear one, please remember that the WJHS Expectations for Dress will apply.
In addition to our WJHS Expectations for Dress, Halloween costumes cannot include:
Full face paintings or face masks (all students must be identifiable)
Props may NOT include weapons or their look-alikes, and will be confiscated if deemed distracting or inappropriate
Excessive fake blood and/or gore
The inability for a student to sit down (if your child has an inflatable costume that does not easily deflate, they should save that for home Halloween activities and choose an alternate for school)
Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions or clarifications.
Our fall sports are ending for the season with students off to state cross country this weekend! Please take a moment to check out photos below (you have to click on the web version to see photos). Congratulations to all of our fall athletes!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Kate, Jeff and Rob
Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
Preparations for Colder Weather
As the weather gets cooler we notice that more families drop off their children to school than they do in the fall and spring. With student safety in mind, please:
- Follow the signs: if a sign says "No Left Turn" please adhere to the instructions.
- Have your child use the crosswalk(s) where an adult crossing guard or police officer helps students cross the street.
- If you pull into the circle drive, please drop off/pick up your child on the right side of the drive so that your child does not have to cross the circle drive through traffic.
7th Grade Families
Every year we reflect on our transition practices and would appreciate your feedback on how well WJHS supported student transition from sixth to seventh grade. We kindly ask you to complete this survey to share your child's experience this year. Your feedback helps our staff prepare for the transition next spring and summer. Thank you!

Eighth Grade Families Only - New Trier Placement Testing Information
New Trier placement testing is scheduled for Saturday, November 9th and Saturday, November 16th. Families will choose one of these two testing dates. Testing information has been sent to families this week. If you did not receive an email from New Trier, please reach out to them directly at adminservices@nths.net. In your email, please be sure to include your student's name and WJHS as the sending school. For additional information, please see New Trier's incoming freshman website, linked here.
New this year, families are able to choose their testing date, but you must complete the placement testing sign-up form, sent via email. Families must use their New Trier student ID to complete the sign-up, which has been included in the email. Be sure to reach out to New Trier directly if you did not receive an email or be sure to check that pesky spam folder!

📘2024-2025 WJHS YEARBOOKS NOW ON SALE 📙
Yearbooks can be pre-ordered through the WJHS PTO website this year HERE. Order today and be worry-free next spring when you wonder if you’ve already bought one for your student!
🌳VOLUNTEER IN THE COURTYARD 🌳
No one has volunteered to be in the courtyard during lunch so far this year, so the courtyard has not been open! Usually the courtyard will ‘close’ by Thanksgiving because the weather will be too cold. Because the courtyard is in the middle of classrooms that are in session, it needs an adult to supervise kids to keep it relaxing, peaceful and quiet. Sign up HERE to volunteer either Wednesdays (7th graders) or Fridays (8th graders). Questions? Contact volunteers@wjhspto.com
📣SHOUT-OUTS 📣
Thank you to all the parents who donated to the October Snacks-for-Staff! The Hospitality Committee’s signup genius was filled with all kinds of treats that provided a little treat for the staff lounge. Your support is greatly appreciated!
The WJHS PTO has been asked to pass along some relevant community information:
