BUCKEYE HIGH SCHOOL EVENT CALENDAR

Starting on Tuesday, March 12th Buckeye High School is excited to be hosting several area business and community leaders as part of our Senior Mock Interview program. Students enrolled in a 12th grade level english class will participate in a mock interview with members of the business community. The mock interview experience will provide our students an opportunity to practice their interviewing skills in an environment similar to an actual interview. The mock interview structure is a great opportunity for our students to become familiar with interview questions and interview etiquette from proper greetings, attire, and answers. Students will be evaluated on their interview skill and given feedback as part of this process!

If your child is enrolled in a full day MCCC program or participates in their english course off campus through CCP and you would like for them to participate in the mock interview day we will still have times and interviewers available! Please contact me at kjakub@buckeyelocalschools.org to request an interview time as part of the mock interview experience.

Thank you to staff members Mr. Dave Parish, Mrs. Carolyn Constance, Ms. Dana LaPlant, Mrs. Cybele Kuty, and Mrs. Courtney Smith for working together to help make this program a reality at Buckeye High School this year.

Congratulations to the Buckeye High School Academic Challenge team for competing on the popular WEWS Channel 5 program this past Wednesday evening March 6th. Team members (pictured left to right) consist of Alex Demagall (12), McCallah Ferry (12), and Tyler Rak (11). Alternates for the team (pictured left to right) were Brianna Madrigal (11) and Kathryn Kunz (10).

The team is advised by Buckeye High School math teacher Mr. Neal Call. The team has been sworn to secrecy so we cannot yet report the final results. However, the broadcast of this episode will be aired on April 6th so please do not forget to tune in to see how the squad performed! Way to go Bucks!

It is hard to believe the end of the 3rd Quarter is already upon us! The 3rd quarter will officially close on Friday, March 8th. Parents, please make sure you are up to date with your child's progress and check their report card via ProgressBook. As a reminder, Report Cards will not be printed for families and sent home with students but are available for download via your parent ProgressBook account. The report card will be available for parent and student viewing on Friday, March 15th. If you would like a printed copy of your child's report card please contact Mrs. Linda DePew in the Guidance Office via email at ldepew@buckeyeschools.org.

Please also note that student fees for the school year are also available on your Parent ProgressBook account. If you have questions about fees being owed please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Maxwell for assistance in the Buckeye High School Main Office.

Congratulations to Buckeye High School Wrestlers (pictured left to right) Sophomore, Eddie Pinc, a first time qualifier, Sophomore, Anthony Ashley, a second time qualifier, and Freshmen, Logan Cravatas, a first time qualifier as an alternate for the OHSAA Athletic Wrestling Championships. The OHSAA State Wrestling Championships will take place in Columbus, Ohio starting on March 7th and lasting into the weekend. Good luck to these young men as they work to win a state championship this weekend. Thank you for representing Buckeye High School at the highest level of your individual sport!

The Buckeye High School local scholarship application and newsletter are now available. Please simply click on the PDF files below to download them and make them available for print. Completed applications must be turned in to the guidance office by 2:10 PM on Wednesday, March 20th. We will not accept late applications, as we need to get the forms to our benefactors as quickly as possible. These scholarships are only for Buckeye seniors, and we have been fortunate to hand out about $40,000 each year to the graduating class. Please contact your school counselor if you have any questions.

Please be aware that the Michael Fulton Memorial Scholarship is available to a graduate of Buckeye High School who is pursuing schooling in the arts. The scholarship has been established by the family of Mr. Michael Fulton a former art educator in the Buckeye Local Schools. A stipend of $1,000.00 dollars is available to qualified candidates. The Michael Fulton Scholarship is bestowed to a student who is seeking a career in the arts. Please find the application below!

In years past Buckeye High School has hosted a popular area program for parents known as Hidden in Plain Sight. While the program is not scheduled to be held at Buckeye this year we did feel it important to remind parents of some useful tips in helping to keep their children safe. Please take a quick look at this piece that was completed by Fox 8 News here in Cleveland that is aimed at giving parents some insight into the seemingly safe objects that can be found in a teenagers bedroom that could be a sign of potential substance use.

One new club making a mark on the BHS campus this year is the Dungeons and Dragons Club (D&D). D&D Club was founded by Buckeye High School Junior, Jacob Doerge and sponsored by teacher Mr Mike Seese. Jacob and Mr. Seese agreed that if Jacob worked hard in the classroom and gave his best effort in math that Mr. Seese would volunteer his time on Monday after school each week to provide a space and sponsor for the D&D Club to be born. Jacob performed in the classroom and Mr. Seese lived up to his end of the deal and the rapidly growing D&D Club was born! Take a look behind the scenes at how this story telling board game is helping bring students together after school at Buckeye High School!

Please be aware that our Spring Break is scheduled from 3-23/3-31. We hope that you and your family are able to enjoy some downtime and are able to spend some quality time together and maybe even find some sun! If you and your family are planning to take a Spring Break trip that is outside of our scheduled window for break please make sure to fill out the vacation request form and return it to Mrs. Yvonne Inman in the Attendance Office. This form is required for those students missing school as a result of a scheduled vacation. Please take the time to download the form and have your child take it to their teachers for signature and to coordinate missed assignments from the absence.

Often the most difficult position in any school is that of assistant principal. Often times a balancing act between disciplinarian, mentor, coach, advocate, and leader the assistant principal position can be demanding. We are very fortunate to have Mr. Adam Snook serve our school in this position and the crew at BuckTv thought it might be a good idea to get to know a little bit more about our own Mr. Adam Snook! Don't miss this one as you really get to know what makes Mr. Snook such a great asset to Buckeye High School!

Every spring, schools across the State of Ohio participate in End of Course Exams (EOC's). These exams are required to be taken by students who must earn a total of 18 points on seven end-of-course exams in the areas of English Language Arts I, English Language Arts II, Algebra I, Geometry, United States Government, and Biology in order to earn a Ohio High School diploma. Information regarding how the 18 points can be earned and additional information regarding the EOCs and graduation requirements can be found here.

In order to deliver a testing environment that minimizes student stress and anxiety and promote achievement on the exams, Buckeye High School will be running an adjusted school bell schedule the day of scheduled exams. The adjusted schedule will duplicate our two-hour delay schedule that is run once monthly during the school year on teacher professional development days. Regularly provided school transportation to and from Buckeye High School will run at their regularly scheduled times as will shuttles to and from MCCC. Below are our scheduled testing dates and expected student arrival times for those students not testing.

April 9- Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will report to school at their normal time for EOC exams and the SAT. Students in grade 12 will be granted a career shadow or college visitation opportunity and are excused from school.

Parents please remind your child to charge their Chromebook regularly at home! In recent weeks we have had many students reporting to school with their Chromebook not charged enough to conduct class learning activities. Students are able to get a loaner device from the media center when this occurs, but only so many loaner devices are available for students!

Please work with your child to ensure that they are charging their device each evening so that it can be used for the duration of the school year! Your child's teachers will greatly appreciate your help!
