Kegonsa Family Newsletter
2024 - 2025
November 17, 2024
Hello Kegonsa Families,
Can you believe we’re already halfway through November? Time is flying by, and there’s been so much to celebrate and look forward to at Kegonsa! A quick reminder that on Wednesday, November 20, the Lions Club will be visiting. Volunteers will help screen our kindergarteners for both hearing and vision, and our 2nd and 4th graders will also receive vision screenings. These screenings offer a great first step in monitoring your child’s vision health. However, please remember that they do not replace a comprehensive eye exam. Regular professional eye examinations are recommended at birth, six months, and before starting school or any time you have concerns about your child’s vision.
Please enjoy some photos from our kindergarteners’ recent field trip to Hinchley Dairy Farm! The students had a fantastic time, and we captured so many special moments. Thank you for your continued support and involvement in making November another great month at Kegonsa!

Honoring Our Heroes: Veterans Day Moments
🌟 A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Veterans! 🌟
We extend our deepest gratitude to the brave men and women who serve and have served our country. It was an honor to welcome Active Service Members and Veterans to Kegonsa on Monday. They shared their stories, wisdom, and experiences with students and staff.

Storytime with Aaron Reynolds: Highlights from Our Guest Author Visit
This week, we had the incredible opportunity to welcome Aaron Reynolds, acclaimed author of Creepy Carrots, Nerdy Birdy, and many other beloved books, to our school. Aaron’s visit was a highlight for students and staff alike, as he shared his journey as a writer, the inspiration behind his stories, and his infectious love for reading and creativity.
Students were captivated by his humor, storytelling, and advice about finding their voices through writing. It was truly an unforgettable experience! Thank you for fostering a love of reading at home and supporting opportunities like this that enrich our students’ education.
Artistic Expressions: News from the Art Room
Hi Families!
As most of you know by now, Kegonsa is participating in a creative fundraiser with Art to Remember that allows you to purchase keepsake products customized with your child's art. The artworks are amazing, they are all scanned and Kegonsa's online shop is up and running! There are over 60 products and many are less than $20. These make great gifts and a percentage of every purchase goes right back to our school!
By the end of the week, every student will have received a custom order form with a QR code specific to their Artwork to bring home to you but you don't have to wait for them! If you click on the link below, you're able to search your student's name and their beautiful Artwork will show up! I didn't want you to wait for the QR code to get home to you because you can get FREE shipping on any orders if they're placed before Friday, November 22! After that they can be shipped to your home.

I can't wait until you see the amazing work your student created! Please let me know if you have any questions!

Meet Tiana Sullivan! Keongsa's Reading Corps Tutor 📚
Hi! My name is Tiana Sullivan, and I am a Reading Corps tutor at Kegonsa Elementary this year! I am originally from just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. This past May, I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in neuroscience and Spanish, and I enrolled in a year of service through AmeriCorps right after graduation. My first placement this summer was in Phoenix, but I was super excited to come back to the Midwest when I saw this Reading Corps position open! I have lots of family in Wisconsin and the Chicago area, and my partner of four years, Jeremy, is a software developer at Epic. We have loved exploring Madison so far! In our free time, we enjoy running, playing Guitar Hero, and hosting game nights with friends.
During college, I was a research assistant in the Cognition, Learning, and Development Research Lab at Notre Dame for three years, so I am super passionate about evidence-based literacy interventions. I am so excited to work with students alongside the amazing staff at Kegonsa to provide extra support and build students’ reading skills and confidence!
Shining Gilly Award Winners!
What is the Shining Gilly Award?
The Shining Gilly Award recognizes students who go above and beyond to show exceptional care for others or our school. These students exemplify the qualities we strive to nurture in all of our little citizens—kindness, responsibility, and a positive impact on their community. Whether it's an individual or a group of students, those who receive this award truly reflect the values we hold dear at our school.
Congratulations to Olivia (1st), Wyatt (2nd), Melody (KG), and Jeoffrey (3rd)!
