Indian Education Update
2024-2025 School Year
Fall Information
Welcome to our second edition of our Indian Education Smore updates. This semester has been very productive for our students. High school students attended a college fair, college visit and had Native American Heritage month activities. After school tutoring continues at Boulevard Academy. Several community cultural events took place, Challenge Bowl practice sessions, and several of our students have been representing their tribal princess titles across the state.
This edition highlights numerous events, presentations and activities scheduled throughout the school district and state recognizing our Native American contributions. History, culture, tribal languages, traditions, music, dance, literature and art are thriving. Our Indian Education makes efforts to recognize cultures, tribes, and notable Native Americans during Native American Heritage Month, and every month of the year.
Parents are to be reminded to check your emails from our Indian Education program. Feel free to reach out to our office for additional information.
You may also go to our Indian Education department page under the EPS website and see additional information.

Title VI Indian Education
A complete ED 506 form must be completed for a student to be added to the Title IV program. Parents enrolling their child with Edmond Public Schools identifying their child as having American Indian/Alaskan Native ancestry are provided the form to be completed. Self identification does not automatically enroll your child for the Title VI program.
Johnson O'Malley Program
Parents may send or upload student tribal documentation for the JOM program. The Edmond Public School district JOM program is a public school contract through the Bureau of Indian Education. The student's copy of his/her tribal enrollment card or document from a federally recognized tribe is required for the program. Feel free to contact our program staff should you have questions.
Tribal Consultation Meeting
The metro schools tribal consultation meeting is scheduled for January 21, 2025. This scheduled meeting is for school and tribal representatives to meet and collaborate on providing positive and improved opportunities for our metro Indian students.
Middle School Teacher Susan Sheldon
Hello, I am Susan Sheldon the Indian Education Middle School Teacher. We are in full swing with our
afterschool program. We have learned about Native American Pottery, Basketry, created traditional
arts, and learned a few words in their tribal languages!
Spring will be an educational and fun semester as we prepare for the Red Earth Youth Art Contest, the Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair, and our 8th grade University of Central Oklahoma visit, Broncho Bound.
8th Grade students will be pulled during Advisory time in the Spring to talk about preparing for High
School, and sign up for Broncho Bound. Please be on the lookout for information about this event in the spring semester.
If you have any questions, please contact me at Susan.Sheldon@edmondschools.net or at 405-726-3301.

Elementary Teacher Cholakocee Werito
Hesci! It has been a busy first semester! I visited several schools for Native American Heritage Month to share some of my favorite books and stories. Please see our Book Challenge to discover new titles! We shared this resource with our elementary teachers. I am continuing to work with my two elementary groups and creating resources for EPS elementary teachers.
If you have any questions, please contact me at cholakocee.werito@edmondschools.net or at 405-726-3304.
High School Update
It's been a fun-filled fall semester and this upcoming week we have ACT Prep on December 3rd from 4:45-6:15pm. If you did not sign up to attend, you may still do so by clicking the following link: ACT Prep RSVP.
As we approach the end of the semester and winter break I would like to share the Indian Education High School Resources page, a newsletter linking to scholarships and college planning resources. Students are reminded to pay close attention to details and deadlines for opportunities. Also if you missed the Scholarship/FAFSA presentation in November you may contact courtney.tsotigh@edmondschools.net for more information.
Additional information for spring opportunities and Indian Education meetings will be shared in January. Finally, I would like to encourage students these final weeks to keep pushing through and working hard as you prepare for semester finals.
