Connecticut Primary is Tuesday, April 26th
Dear parents/guardians,
As you know, the Connecticut Primary is Tuesday, April 26th and our school is a designated polling area. Voting at King Philip will occur in one of our technical education classrooms (Rm: 207). This room was selected because it can be isolated from the building by being close to the parking lot with an outside entrance. Voter parking will be in the lot located on King Philip Drive and reserved for voters. We will have security on site to make sure that students are kept separated from the voting and their day is not interrupted. We will also have support from the West Hartford Police Department on campus to support both traffic, voters, and staff. As you can imagine, it would be very helpful to eliminate as many cars as possible during parent drop off and pickup. To avoid traffic backups during drop-off and pick-up, please drop off in the morning in the back parking lot off of Mohawk Drive. If you are attending a meeting or picking up a child during the day, please park on King Philip Drive directly. I appreciate your help and all that you do for our school community.

Joy K. Wright
Lead Learner Highlights
This week, staff and students returned from break reinvigorated and ready to learn. Classrooms have been abuzz with activity. The week started with an amazing night of learning with eighth grade Garnet team's History Day exhibition. Two of our three seventh grade teams have traveled to Chinatown to link experience to what they are/will be learning in class about Chinese culture and immigration. Seventh grade science students have entered into team medical schools to explore their new unit on human body systems. Our spring musical, Suessical, is completing its last week of rehearsal and our community is in for an amazing show! We are looking forward to another great week.

International Night - Donations Needed!
On Friday, May 6, King Philip Middle School will be hosting this year's International Night to celebrate KP's cultural diversity! Last year, we had over 200 people attend this event, and this year, we hope it will be more.
We have an amazing committee of teachers helping to organize this event, but we are always more than happy to accept donations such as: paper plates, plastic silverware, plastic cups, napkins, serving utensils, streamers, balloons, and water. Please deliver any donations to Marisa Tamayo. Any questions, you can contact her at marisa_tamayo@whps.org.
Also, if your family is interested in attending the event, the deadline to return permission slips has been extended to Wednesday, May 4. We Want to Get in Touch with the Best Teacher You Know
During Teacher Appreciation Week on May 2-6, the U.S. Department of Education wants to say thank you to some great teachers. Recommend a friend, a colleague, your child’s teacher, or a teacher who inspired you! Tell us about a teacher you want to highlight along with a few details about why they are great and how we can reach them. We hope to directly contact each nominee but cannot guarantee that we will be in touch during that week. We may also use this information for additional teacher highlighting purposes throughout the year.

The CT RACE IN THE PARK takes place annually each May on the Saturday before Mother’s Day in New Britain’s historic Walnut Hill Park. This year, the race will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2016, rain or shine!
