IMPORTANT: EDCHOICE REQUIREMENTS
Our school has 175 scholarships awarded for the 2024-25 school year. There are two important steps that I need parents to complete in order for the school to receive scholarship funds to cover tuition costs:
- For each awarded EdChoice scholarship, I must have an Acceptance Form signed and turned in at the office. We sent out forms in the Blue Folders last week and nearly everyone has signed and returned them. Thank you!
- Please follow the LINK to authorize St. Bernard School to deposit funds from the scholarship checks to pay for tuition. The Ohio Department of Education issues scholarship checks on a monthly basis which require this permission to be deposited. Please take care of this immediately if you have not already. Again, most of you took care of this. Thank you!
Please contact me in the school office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Yours in Christ,
Kenny Glassmeyer, Office Manager

From the Principal:
Dear St. Bernard Parents,
It’s a great week! To begin the week with a holiday, end with our beloved Grandparents, and then head into the weekend with an awesome Trunk-Or-Treat event is a real gift! On top of that we have some great feast days and memorials this month, we are gearing up for the Solemnity of All Saints, and Veterans Day is just around the corner.
One of our 8th Graders recently asked me who was my favorite saint… I didn’t pinpoint my #1 favorite (I’ll save that for a later date), but I did share that St. Isaac Jogues was definitely in my top 5. Isaac’s story is a true adventure filled with faith, perseverance, and courage. From an early age he wanted to be a martyr - how does a child desire to die for his faith? I think the answer is two-fold. First, God’s grace is the only thing that could create that holy desire in a child - for to desire to imitate Christ in the complete gift of self as a sacrifice to God is not an earthly thing. I believe the second thing that could contribute to this virtuous longing is the example of love, prayer, and devotion that parents provide their children - and an access to grace through these things, in particular through attending Mass. Not that any parent would readily say, “sure, I’d love for my child to endure persecution and receive a martyr’s crown,” but we would all concede that we want our children to go to Heaven. So do we as parents fulfill this second piece of the puzzle for our children? My self-reflective answer is - maybe… sometimes… I know I can do better! I was not thinking it as I began writing, but Isaac Jogues’ story is now a calling for us parents to be better for our children and inspire them to do and love that which is True, Good, and Beautiful - that which is holy. As for St. Isaac Jogues, well he became a Jesuit Missionary to the Americas and spread the Gospel to the Native Americans. What happened next I’ll leave you to read about on your own (or see if your child can tell you the story)! Anyway, his memorial is this Saturday (October 19).
Speaking of saints… Make sure you are beginning to plan for the Solemnity of All Saints. This year the Holy Day of Obligation falls on a Friday (November 1). So, what are your Mass plans? We have our All-School Mass moved to that day and will celebrate Mass at 8:30 in the morning. We hope that you can join us! And the second thing is… Which saint will your child dress as for this special occasion? On this day we will allow students to be out of uniform IF they come dressed as a saint. Don’t spend a bunch of money making this a second “halloween costume,” but rather do some pinterest/google searches and be creative with your little saint’s garb.
Once again, we look forward to seeing our many visiting grandparents this Friday! And hopefully we will see all our parents and students back here on Friday evening for Trunk-Or-Treat! The event begins at 6:30, but those decorating their trunks and wanting to participate in the distribution candy need to arrive by 6:00 before the area is roped/coned off. PLEASE note that trunks should not be gruesome or too scary - we do not want to glorify or celebrate horror or gore at this event. We are going for fun and creative!
Have a great rest of your week! God bless!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ertel
P.S. Shout out to all those Bobcats who are wrapping up soccer season and competing in tournaments and the playoffs at this time. Have fun, play your hardest, and give glory to God!
Spirit of St. Bernard Day is on Friday, October 25th!
This month, we will be supporting Pregnancy Center West. They are in need of newborn diapers, onesies, sleepers, bibs, and clothing. In order to be out of uniform on this day, students must bring in a dollar donation or one of the newborn items listed above.
Out of Uniform for All Saints Day: Friday, November 1st
All Souls' Day: Saturday, November 2
Dear St. Bernard Parents,
All Souls’ Day is observed on November 2 each year. On this day and throughout the month of
November, we remember in a special way all those who have died. At this time, we find comfort
in knowing that our family members and friends, who now rest in Christ’s heavenly Peace, are
not forgotten.
To perpetuate the memory of these special people, we are assembling a book in which we will
place the names of these relatives, friends, and anyone else you would like to have
remembered in our prayers. Each family is being given a blank page, from the memory book, on
which the names of deceased loved ones should be written. Please complete the page and
return to school by October 25, 2024.
We will remember these and the souls of all of the faithful departed in our daily prayers. God be
with you and bless you, always!
Mr. Ertel

2024 Veterans Day Celebration: Friday, November 8, 2024
Dear St. Bernard Parents and Students,
On Friday, November 8th, 2024, the St. Bernard students will be presenting a Veterans Day Program in the Parish Center at 1:45pm to honor those who have given military service to our country. Please invite any Veterans you know to join us for this special event. We would like to recognize and thank the Veterans in our community personally at our ceremony. Please return the attached RSVP Form or contact the school office no later than Friday, November 1st, so we can plan accordingly. Thank you so much for your help in planning this celebration!
Sincerely,
Mr. Tony Ertel, Principal

BLUE FOLDERS
Please return all blue folders to school each week.
NO BLUE FOLDERS THIS WEEK!!!
Blue folders will go home with the OLDEST student in each family on Wednesdays, as needed, throughout the school year. These will contain any important handouts or forms that need to be submitted in paper form. Anytime we can share documents in a digital format to provide information or link you to online resources, we will do so instead of filling your home with papers.
