A Message from Principal Senethavilay
Pleasant View Families,
The staff and I would like to wish you a very merry and restful winter break as you celebrating the holidays. We could not be more proud to be a part of this community and are thankful for the opportunity to spend time with your very perseverant and kind children. We know this has not been an easy year for anyone, so we ask that you find time to laugh with one another, take time to reflect on the growth made, and find peace in some rest and relaxation! Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday! We will see you in the new year!

LOOKING FOR SOME OPPORTUNITIES...
FROM MISS KITZ--MUSIC TEACHER
Dear Pleasant View Families,
Happy Holidays!
My name is Kelsie Kitz, and I am the music teacher here at Pleasant View. It has been wonderful getting to know your students this year!
We have been hard at work in music class learning about Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Many of your students are familiar with this beautiful ballet and suite of music, and we have had a lot of fun learning, listening, and exploring this famous work!
Because going to see The Nutcracker in person is not possible this year, I wanted to let you know about a few different ways that you and your students can watch The Nutcracker at home! Students in 1st-5th grade will be coming home with packets or booklets about The Nutcracker that I have encouraged them to continue working on and enjoying over the break!
Saint Louis Ballet (YouTube) FREE!
The St. Louis Ballet Company produced The Nutcracker this year and released the full ballet for free for audiences to enjoy! There is a brief intermission and no ads.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre – Fireside Nutcracker FREE!
The Pittsburgh Ballet is producing and streaming The Nutcracker for free this year. When you register for the event (email and name), they will send you a link to watch The Nutcracker, good through the end of the year!
Amazon Prime – George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker
Performed by the New York City Ballet in 1993. This is included with Amazon Prime or with IMDB TV. It is also available for rent for $4.00. This version of The Nutcracker stars Macaulay Culkin (yes—the kid from the Home Alone movies!) as the Prince.
I hope you and your students have fun listening to this beautiful music and watching the ballet!
I look forward to seeing your students in the new year.
Best wishes,
Kelsie Kitz

FROM THE COMPUTER LAB
Hi Pleasant View Families!
WOW, what a quick three weeks it has been since Thanksgiving break! I am still working with the students on having good posture while sitting at the computer.
We are still working on logging into our computers when we come into Lab. The students are doing an amazing job in their Typing Club programs; they can continue to work on their typing over break if they would like.
For those with younger grade students, if you could continue to practice logging into and out of their computer over break, it would be very helpful.
When we come back from break, Kindergarten and 1st Grade will continue to work on our Digital Citizen Unit.
The 2nd through 5th grade, will start on Be Internet Awesome unit. This is a new curriculum within Google. It is a 5 Lesson program: Share with Care; Don’t Fall for Fake; Secure your Secrets; It’s Cool to Be Cool, and When it Doubt Talk it Out. Please take some time to look over the Family Link Guide for Parents.
Also, below is a PDF to some other great family activities for the break.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Break!
Your Friend,
Jillian Shenk
