Message to families
Mariner Family,
I love our school do you love our school!
Best parents in the world, I hope this message finds you well. As we begin a new school year, I want to share some exciting news about the professional support systems we have in place to ensure your child’s success at IHCS. We are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically and socially-emotionally.
To support our students and staff, we have three dedicated academic coaches who specialize in math and reading. Their role is to work closely with our teachers to enhance instructional practices and provide targeted support to students, helping them reach their full potential in these critical areas.
In addition to our academic coaches, we are fortunate to have a Wellbeing TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) on our team. This professional is dedicated to supporting our teachers with social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies that help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment and provide targeted support to students, helping them reach their full potential in these critical areas. Our goal is to ensure that every student feels confident, safe, and ready to learn.
We also have two counselors on staff, who provide essential support to both students and teachers in the areas of positive attendance, academic counseling and SEL. Their work is crucial in helping our students navigate their academic journey while also addressing their emotional and social needs.
The support we provide is aimed at creating a well-rounded learning experience for your child. We want them to feel confident in their abilities, secure in their environment, and fully supported in every aspect of their education. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a strong professional support team in place each day, working together to ensure that our students and staff are set up for success.
Thank you for your continued partnership and trust in our school community. We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to seeing your child grow and succeed at IHCS.
Sincerely,
Your dedicated admin team -
Assistant Principal, Mrs. Barry, Assistant Principal, Mr. Castro, and Principal, Mr. Candelaria
Inside our ship
Herencia Mariachi Program: Our mariachi program will begin on Thursday, August 5th. Detailed information and permission slips went out last week for all who were interested. We still have room for trumpet players and bass guitar players. See Mr. Candelaria if you would like to join. Students in 2nd grade - 8th grade are eligible. First come first served.
Circle Up!: Mrs. Humble is checking in with students on how their feelings have changed since day 1. Restorative practices help build a strong sense of community in schools, to teach interpersonal skills, to repair harm when conflict occurs, and to proactively meet the needs of students.
Golden Broom Award: Mr. Goodrich is showing off his class award for having one of the cleanest classrooms at IHCS.
Supervision Team: Supervision team had to shift their Friday morning meeting to the workroom due to a professional development opportunity that was taking place in our usual “fish bowl” meeting place. Mr. Castro, along with our team, is going over the norms and participants are selecting a norm to focus on during the meeting.
Professional development: Our bilingual aides and instructional assistants participated in a restorative practices professional development opportunity. Pancho is the blue talking piece that is used during the training. Ask your student what type of talking piece is used in their classroom circle and ask you to show them how the talking piece works. Restorative practices help build a strong sense of community in schools, to teach interpersonal skills, to repair harm when conflict occurs, and to proactively meet the needs of students.
Tech Talk
We are excited to announce that we adopted a new form of school-to-home communication through the Rooms feature of our Perris ESD App. This unified communications platform is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with both IHCS and the district. It provides a safe way for district administrators, school principals, teachers, staff, and parents to communicate vital information as we go through the school year.
All district and school, grade level and classroom information will now be sent to your computer or phone via the district website or app. For even more convenience, download the Perris ESD app (available for free for iOS and Android devices).
