Looking for increased test security?
All tests given online in SchoolCity can have a lockdown browser enabled! When the lockdown browser is enabled, students will need to use one of our FCS Chromebooks. Once they enter the test, they won't be able to do anything else on that Chromebook until they submit the test!
While it's not a 100% perfect solution (remember, kids cheated long before we had computers in our pockets!), it definitely adds another layer of security. Remember though, they must be on one of our Chromebooks because that is where we KNOW that the required app has been downloaded. And no...we can't require students to download it on their personal devices. Just give them a Chromebook!
Just be kind!
I have a thought experiment for you. Over the rest of the week, keep track of:
- every time you Google something
- every time you are late for anything
- every time you realize you forgot to do something you were asked to do
- every time you ask a friend or colleague how to do something
- how often you "get in trouble" for any of the things above
As adults, I think we often forget what it feels like to be a student and not "get" something. Imagine if you got the same response you give...I wouldn't be very happy, and you wouldn't either.
Instead, let's make more of an effort to model expectations and grace. Assume the best intent and the best effort. Above all, be kind to everyone.
itslearning: Which Test tool is the right one? (LAST TIME - PLEASE SHARE)
Those of you in Forsyth or anyone else out there using itslearning may have noticed that there are now TWO Test tools in itslearning when you go to add an Activity.
Unfortunately, the one whose icon looks familiar is the new one and doesn't have many (MANY) of the features that we've become used to. It is still in development and may not be fully "complete" until much later.
Instead, when you need to add a Test, use the purple-y one that says it will be discontinued. Not to worry, you will be able to use it all year long and will still be able to use any tests you had previously created.
