Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

It is hard to believe that the end of the first semester is upon us! Over the next few weeks, it is important to keep an eye on your child's grades by checking ProgressBook to monitor their homework, grades, and assessments. If you need help accessing ProgressBook, please contact your child's grade level office.

Student attendance plays a crucial role in academic success. Regular attendance ensures that students are engaged in the learning process, stay on track with their studies, and develop important habits of responsibility. Missing school can lead to gaps in understanding and make it harder for students to catch up. I encourage your support in ensuring consistent attendance and active participation in their educational journey.

With exams, please talk to your child about the importance of their exams. Exams are 20% of their semester grade, exams are used to determine their GPA which is included on their transcript and report card. Class Rank is determined by their GPA. For seniors, Class Rank is finalized after their 7th semester in high school. Since exams are cumulative, encourage them to complete all of their homework, review their notes, take advantage of any study guides, or any exam prep that is available. Winter break starts on Monday, December 23rd. and school resumes on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Students will report to homeroom by 7:25 a.m. BHS will have an altered schedule. At this time, students will receive a copy of their 2nd semester schedule, underclassmen will learn about our program of study for next year. Guidance will explain the scheduling process for the 2025-2026 school year. Seniors will report to homeroom and will have a senior meeting with Mrs. Petry, where she will cover expectations for the remainder of the year, time frame, due dates, dates and other opportunities for the Class of 2025!

Brunswick City Schools 2024-2025 School Calendar

Exam Information-

Exams start on Wednesday, December 18, Thursday, December 19, and Friday, December 20. Exams are 20% of their semester grade, exams are used to determine their GPA, which is included on their transcript and report card. Class Rank is determined by their GPA. For seniors, Class Rank is finalized after their 7th semester in high school. Since exams are cumulative, I encourage each of you to do your best, review notes, take advantage of any study guides, or any exam prep that your teachers provide!

Brunswick High School Exam Schedule - Exams are required for all classes. There are no exemptions for 1st semester exams. Students who do not take their exam, will receive an "F" on their report card for any missed exam. Be sure to look at the adjusted daily exam schedule to make sure you do not miss an exam. If you have any questions, please talk to your teacher or call any office.

Transportation:

During exams, buses will run at their regular schedule morning and afternoon times. Students who do not have a ride to school or home during exams, will report to the East Cafe or assigned location when they do not have a scheduled exam. Any student who doesn't have a ride home or has not made other arrangements after their last exam, will report to the East Cafe for study hall. Students will be dismissed at 2:10 pm. to catch their bus home.

Breakfast and Lunch during Exams:

During exams, the following times will be available in the East Cafeteria for students to get breakfast and lunch:

• Breakfast will be available all three exam days in the East Cafe, remember exams start promptly at 7:25 a.m.
• Students can purchase snacks during the 15 minute breaks between exams. (see exam schedule for times/breaks)
• Lunch on December 18th & 19th will be served from 12:25 pm until 1:00 pm
• Lunch on December 20th will be served form 10:40 am until 11:15 am.

The BCSD Calendar is out a year in advance. Exams are always the last three days of the semester, and will not be given early. Students who do not take their exam will receive an "F" for their final exam on their report card. This will impact their GPA and class ranking. Any make-up exam must be scheduled prior with the teacher.

BCSD Transportation on Exam/PSAT/SAT/EOC days

I encourage each student to start studying now, review notes and study guides from this semester, get a good nights sleep, eat a good breakfast, and be on time for your exams.

Brunswick High School's Link Crew is holding their annual LFO, Link for Others, a schoolwide event to help those in our community during the holiday season. Link Crew works with the Salvation Army to help identify families in need. The tradition of helping our community has always been part of the Blue Devil tradition for over 50 years. From food drives for local food pantries, sponsoring families in need with clothing, raising money for St. Baldricks, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, providing toys for local children's hospital and the BHS pantry with personal care items, backpacks, supplies, and food.

This year, Brunswick High School is sponsoring eight families. This is truly a team effort with students and staff working together to help those families in need. All 2nd period classes will sponsor a child. Students and teachers will work together to collect items on the child’s wish list or by bringing in non-perishable items. With our help, the families may be able to enjoy Christmas and the holidays for their family.

LFO will be collection items until December 6th.

The winter athletic season underway, additional parking for athletics events in the East Gym will be located in the back West Parking Lot. A second athletic entrance will be open for those parking in the back West Lot, North athletic entrance. Look for signage guiding you to the North Athletic Entrance.
