Our Learning Community...
This week our 3rd-5th graders will continue taking the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments (SBAC). Last week we focused on literacy, this week we will focus on mathematics.
During testing weeks, it is important for students to have adequate sleep (at least eight hours is recommended), eat balanced meals, drink plenty of water, and get exercise. Foods high in protein, and water help to stimulate the brain. Exercise, such as stretching and walking, helps to supply the brain with oxygen. Eating a healthy breakfast before school, particularly on testing days, gives the body the fuel it needs to maintain long periods of concentration.
Families can also plan enjoyable and relaxing activities during our testing weeks. Plan enjoyable activities to keep your child feeling relaxed and positive about the testing experience.
Remember, it is essential your child arrives at school on time every day. Students that arrive after the testing session has started will not be able to enter the classroom. They will be sent to a designated classroom and will have to make up that test session at another time, which is not ideal.
AANHPI Heritage Month
May is recognized nationally as Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage month and it is a time for us to come together in celebration, recognition, and reflection. Throughout this month, we honor the diverse histories, traditions, and contributions of AANHPI communities to the fabric of our society.
This month is an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the rich tapestry of AANHPI cultures that shape our world. It is a time to listen to stories passed down through generations, savor the flavors of traditional cuisines, and appreciate the artistry and creativity that abound in AANHPI communities.
It is also a time to recognize the resilience and strength of AANHPI individuals and families, who have overcome challenges, preserved their heritage, and paved the way for future generations. From the perseverance of immigrant families to the activism of community leaders, the AANHPI experience is one of triumph over adversity and a testament to the power of unity and solidarity.
As a school community, let us take this opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with our loved ones about the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Let us educate ourselves and our students about the histories and struggles of AANHPI communities, fostering empathy, respect, and appreciation for all cultures. Together we can celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month with joy, pride, and a commitment to building a more just and equitable world for all.
