West Side March Newsletter

Welcome Back Students, Our A and B students are in school Monday through Friday. Certainly with more students in the building/classrooms we are making adjustments to follow Concord Community health and safety guidelines. We do miss our Virtual Only students and cannot wait until Fall 2021 when we're back together.

Let's hope that March brings some relief with the weather. I think we are all ready for spring and some warmer weather. I know our students are ready to play on the recess equipment and run around, play soccer, and use the swing sets!

• The March 17th previously scheduled eLearning Day is cancelled. Students WILL report to school on March 17, 2021.
• We are planning to hold an in-person book fair next month. Dates and times will be shared soon. If plans change we will let you know.
• Our PTO is already working on plans for the return of the annual West Side Chicken BBQ in May!!!
• Very important that children have a mask at school. Whether a car rider, or bus rider, children will need a mask when departing and entering the school.
• Picture Retakes are scheduled for Wednesday March 31st in the morning. More details later.

Congratulations to Ronald McCue, Concord West Side's "Junior Scientist." He was selected to attend the Regional Science Fair at Notre Dame this weekend. The Science Fair was virtual this year and the award ceremony will be virtual today (3/1 @ 4:30). If you'd like to follow the ceremony here is the link.

Would you like to become part of our school improvement team? This team meets in the spring and early fall to help put together our annual plan. This is a plan that the Department of Education requires each school to complete. WE NEED parental input as we plan for our school goals and vision for the future. Get involved, Everyone's Input is Valued and Important.

Parents, If you need to contact Nurse Kelsey please call our office @ 293-2531. Please make sure and keep ALL kids in the family home from school if a child has a fever, and/or more than 1 potential symptom of COVID19, such as headache and sore throat; coughing and congestion etc. Please contact the nurse if you are keeping your child home for COVID19 related illnesses. If anyone in the household is COVID19 tested, all students must remain home from school until everyone's test results come back negative.

We will continue with daily meal distribution Monday through Thursday for our in-person students. On Friday our virtual students may pick up meals at West Side from 11-1 PM.

1. Online Internet Safety-Do you know what your children are doing online? Please always be aware of what children are accessing online. If they are using a Concord device we do have a filtering system that will monitor online access. Our West Side administrative team will be notified is a Concord device is accessing something deemed offensive or inappropriate. Another great resource for online safety is: Common Sense.org

2. This month we've had 2 fire drills and 2 Alice Alert Drills. Parents feel free to speak with your children about our monthly drills. During both of our fire drills we were able to get everyone out of the building in 1 minute and 10 seconds.

The Center for Healing and Hope (located in Goshen) provides COVID-19 testing and is a clinic for uninsured and under-insured individuals. They also do a lot of work in immigrant advocacy.
