Week of September 30 - October 4
Principal's Message
Dear BES families,
Monster Mash is coming up! Saturday, October 5th is one of our most anticipated events of the year! Please see information below regarding how to purchase wristbands for students as well as all of the amazing auction items available to bid on.
Our first English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) meeting of the year will take place this Friday, October 4th at 8:15 a.m. Click HERE for the ELAC meeting agenda.
Our Student Ambassadors are only available at the gate to support students until 8:10 a.m. each morning. At that point, they need to get to class to begin their day. Our gate closes promptly at 8:20 a.m. We will make exceptions should there be a report of an accident or other event that causes a problem in the typical traffic pattern getting to BES.
Please note, - you may not check in through the office to enter campus until 8:30 a.m. There are still students entering the office to get to class until this point and it is our goal to get them to their classroom as soon as possible to prevent loss of instructional time. Thank you for your understanding.
Please see an important message below from Student Services regarding attendance. Attendance is a big focus for our school and district this year. Attendance is a large factor to student success and we look forward to partnering with families to increase and improvement our attendance. We will be implementing some incentives to help improve attendance at BES.
Warmly,
Allison Fortney

Attendance message from Student Services
Bonsall Unified School District is excited about placing a district wide focus on student attendance. Consistent daily attendance allows our teachers greater opportunity to maximize student learning in reading, writing, and math skills. These academic skills are critical for student growth and development.
Our aim is to eliminate unexcused absences in our schools and also to minimize excused absences, as much as possible. Therefore parents will be notified and alerted through the U.S. Mail when their child has unexcused absences at Day 3, Day 6, and Day 9. There are various interventions the school and district will employ in order to support the student and family with unexcused absences. Also, we are hopeful that families will value the alerts that will be sent at Day 5, Day 10, and Day 15 for excused absences. We understand that many of these excused absences are unavoidable due to sickness and other emergency student and family situations, yet it is important that you are reminded of the volume of days that are missed.
Thank you for your understanding and we are grateful that your family has selected Bonsall Unified School District as its educational home!

School marquee update
Last year, the school held a fundraiser through Step it Up to raise money for a new marquee. Our school marquee has been broken for a few years and the software was too out of date to have it repaired. A marquee serves as a wonderful tool to share information, celebrations, and important updates with our school and the greater community. I am happy to report that our new marquee has been ordered! We can't wait to see this project through within the next couple of months! Thank you to everyone who donated to this project!
Love on Your Back Food Drive
We’re excited to announce that our local non-profit, Love on Your Back, will be holding a Canned Soup and Mac & Cheese food drive from September 30th through October 7th. This is a wonderful opportunity to help families in need within the Bonsall Unified School District.
All food donations will be collected in your child’s classroom, and the class with the most donations will win a popsicle party!
Your generous contributions will make a real difference, and we truly appreciate your support.
Thank you for joining us in this effort to give back to our community. Together, we can make a positive impact.
BUSD Dress Code and Policies
As we begin the school year, please take a moment to read the following BUSD board policies and dress code information. You can refer to the Board Policy Manual HERE. Please note that students should be covering midriffs, wearing shorts, skirts, or dresses of an appropriate length, and undergarments need to be concealed which means that students should not be wearing tops with "spaghetti straps." Students can wear open toed shoes but they must have a strap around the back of the ankle for safety purposes. If any of the following expectations are violated, your student may be asked to call their parents for a change of clothes.
Regulation 5132: Dress and Grooming
In cooperation with teachers, students, and parents/guardians, the principal or designee may establish school rules governing student dress and grooming which are consistent with law, Board policy, and administrative regulations. These school dress codes shall be regularly reviewed.
The following guidelines shall apply to all regular school activities:
- Clothing, jewelry, and personal items shall be free of writing, pictures, or any other insignia which is vulgar, lewd, obscene, profane, or sexually suggestive or which promotes the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, or other illegal activity.
- Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times.
- Hats, caps, and other head coverings shall not be worn indoors.
- Clothes shall be sufficient to conceal undergarments. See-through tops and bare abdomens are prohibited.
The dress code shall be modified as appropriate to accommodate a student's religious or cultural observance, health condition, or other circumstance deemed necessary by the principal or designee. In addition, the principal or designee may impose dress requirements to accommodate the needs of special school activities, physical education classes, athletic activities, and other extracurricular and co-curricular activities.

Breakfast at BES
We are proud to serve a free breakfast to all students at BES every day. Breakfast begins when the gate opens and the breakfast menu and options will be posted by the front gate. You will also find the link to the breakfast and lunch menus below. If a student is choosing to eat breakfast, they must go to the cafeteria and eat BEFORE they go play. If a student gets breakfast after the first bell rings and they are late to class, they will be marked tardy.

I am tremendously proud of our commitment to the students and families connected to our nation's military. Thank you to our families, past and present who make so many sacrifices for our country. As the daughter and granddaughter of Veterans, I understand that sacrifice and I am eternally grateful. Drop off and pick up information for Bonsall Elementary School
*You may not park your car or get out of your car in the loading/unloading zone. This is not only a safety issue, but also causes the traffic to back up.
*You can exit the school on Old River Rd ONLY if you park or drop off your student at the Community Center. The only exit from the school parking lot is via Avenida de los Piños. While following the traffic pattern, there will be no "left" in order to access the exit through the Community Center onto Old River Rd.
*The bus lane is at the FRONT of the drop off line. No cars will be allowed to access the bus lane. Please be aware that this is extremely important as our buses are on times routes and it is imperative that the assigned bus zone is kept clear of cars at all times.
*The ramp from the adjoining neighborhood is available for use. You can park and walk your student up using the ramp. There will be a staff member on duty to provide support at the crosswalk on the campus.
*The lane closest to the curb is for loading/unloading only. Please make sure students exit on the RIGHT side of the car. The left lane is now a passing lane which makes is extremely dangerous for students to exit on the left side of the car. Students exiting cars in the passing lane was witnessed way too often last year. The last thing we want is for someone to get hurt. Cars are not watching for children darting in front of their cars due to being dropped off incorrectly.
*You can use the Community Center for drop off and pick up.
