Troy Wellness Weekend: November 27 - December 1
Business Roundtable at Baker Middle School
Members of the Business Roundtable met on Thursday to hear a district update from Superintendent Dr. Rich Machesky. During the meeting, they learned more about the Career Accelerator Program. In addition, Baker teacher Dustin Harnish and students from his class demonstrated how they are using Sphero robots to build chariots as part of learning about the ancient world.

In October, TSD hosted our first Community Conversation about the bestselling book The Anxious Generation.

IA East Student Wins International Spelling Bee
IA East student Aryan Khedkar competed in—and won—the 2024 Canada Super Spelling Bee, an international competition featuring 93 students from the United States, Canada, and China. The competition was fierce, but after winning two Oakland County Spelling Bees and competing in the 2023 and 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee, Aryan was ready.
For his achievement, Aryan took home a trophy, two gold medals, and $1,800 CAD in prize money. This competition marked Aryan's final spelling bee, and he hopes to inspire other Troy School District students to participate in spelling competitions. Congratulations, Aryan!
Troy High Teacher Ms. Ciolek Named Michigan Model UN Advisor of the Year
Congratulations to Troy High teacher and Model UN Advisor Jacqueline Ciolek on being named the 2024 Chisnell Award winner for Michigan Model UN Advisor of the Year!
This prestigious award recognizes individuals who provide exceptional service to Michigan students by promoting Model United Nations education. Ms. Ciolek has dedicated countless hours to creating an enriching Model UN experience for her many students, fostering their leadership and collaboration skills, and consistently going above and beyond.
Congratulations, Ms. Ciolek, on this well-deserved honor!
THS Personal Communications Classes Raising Funds for Charity
The Personal Communications classes at Troy High are hosting a dodgeball tournament to raise money for Cass Community Social Services and La Casa Amigas of Southeast Michigan.
They are also asking for community members to donate items from their Amazon Wishlist. The items will be donated to families. (Click here to visit the wishlist.) The deadline to give is Nov. 25.
HOSA Students Succeed at Region 9 Leadership Conference
Troy High hosted the Region 9 HOSA Leadership Conference, with close to 1,400 student participants from area schools! Students compete in various events related to healthcare professions at the conference. This was the third time that Troy High has hosted this event.
Athens sent 96 students to the conference, and 55 qualified for the State Conference, to be held in April. IA East had 100 students participate, and 88 were invited to the State Conference. Troy High students also did well, and we will share an update on their placements once we have it!
TSD Staff vs. Students Basketball Game - Players Announced!
The Superintendent Student Advisory Board (SSAB) is excited to announce the players for the TSD Staff vs. Students basketball game on Wednesday, December 4, as part of its MLK Day of Service fundraising efforts. Join us at 6 p.m. in the Athens High School Gymnasium for a fun event featuring four 10-minute quarters of basketball action and cheer on your favorite players!
Tickets are only $5, and sales end on November 27. Visit School Pay to purchase your tickets. We look forward to seeing you at the game!
Donate to the MLK Day of Service
This year, instead of collecting fleece donations, the district hopes our families will donate items to create activity and caregiver packages for children and their families at Children's Hospital. Activity and caregiver packages will be packed during our MLK Jr. Citywide Event. Every donation helps! Thank you for your support!
SSAB Announces MLK Day Creative Contest
TSD students are invited to participate in the upcoming MLK Day Creative Contest! Reflect on a time when you made a positive difference in your community and consider how that experience impacted both you and those around you. Share your reflection through a video, essay, poem, or a portfolio of visual artwork.
The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, January 1, at 11:59 p.m. Visit our website to learn more and submit your entry.

Both Athens and Troy High have swimmers competing at States this weekend!
From Athens, Mia Dominguez will compete in the 100 Butterfly and Camilla Inadeski will be diving.
From Troy High Elizabeth Qu, Becca Kozlowski, Beya Weslati, and Ellie MacLean will compete in the 200 Medley. Beya Weslati, Ellie MacLean, Vivienne Cremers, and Amber Choong will be competing in the 200 Free Medley.

Boys Basketball Starts Next Week!
Basketball games begin next week, and Athens and Troy High will both kick off the season with home games.
Troy High will face Southfield A&T, with games starting at 4 p.m. The Varsity game tips off at 7 p.m.
Athens will host Lincoln-King Academy. The JV game tips off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Varsity game at 7 p.m. (The Freshman team will play North Farmington High School at 4 p.m.)

It's Pirate Week in Mr. Fahnestock's Class at Baker!
This week, Baker 6th Grade Social Studies teacher Mr. Brian Fahnestock turned a unit on map reading into an adventure with Pirate Week! Students used clues and maps to find a mystery island and crack a secret vault code, all while Mr. Fahnestock taught in full pirate character. Learning has never been this fun—or swashbuckling!
Costello's Mrs. DiPonio Goes the Extra Mile for Her School
Earlier today, Costello Principal Dr. DiPonio celebrated her school exceeding their Fun Run fundraising goal by being slimed. We are so lucky to have principals who are such good sports!!
Adult English Classes Celebrate Thanksgiving
This week, Troy Continuing Education adult English classes celebrated their annual Thanksgiving Feasts! Alongside classic Thanksgiving staples like turkey and mashed potatoes, students shared a variety of traditional dishes from their own cultures, creating a truly delicious and diverse feast. Just looking at the spread has us hungry already!
TSD Alumnus Receives 2024 Governor Service Award
Troy Schools alumnus and Troy resident Hemanth Tadepalli was honored with the 2024 Governor Service Award at a ceremony on Thursday, November 14, at the Detroit Opera House. Hemanth was recognized for his outstanding commitment to community service in Troy and beyond.
