CHMS Weekly Update
September 23rd - 27th, 2024
W.I.N Time/Wellness Wednesdays
You may have noticed that student schedules has changed a little bit over the weekend. Students will now have W.I.N Time and Wellness Wednesday classes on their schedules. Remember, W.I.N Time stands for "What I Need" Time and has replaced Homeroom at the middle school. This is a dedicated block during the school day where students receive support based on their specific needs, and these needs are determined by assessment data (NWEA, Acadience, etc.). Students may receive interventions to help with reading or math, or they may receive an enrichment in order to challenge them with more advanced concepts. These placements are fluid and may change throughout the year as students' needs change. Students will receive intervention or enrichment four days per week with the fifth day (Wellness Wednesday) being used to deliver our Social-Emotional Learning Curriculum, Second Step.
If you have any questions about W.I.N Time, please feel free to reach out to our Interventionist, Jill Dagley at jdagley@chsd.us
Second Step
What are we learning this week?
5th Grade - Unit 2: Emotion Management - Home Link
Lesson 6: Strong Emotions - In this week’s lesson, your child will learn that it’s possible to anticipate recurring situations that cause them to feel strong emotions so they can plan ways to manage those emotions in the future.
Try this at home: Tell your child about a recurring situation in your life that typically causes you to feel a strong emotion, like anger or frustration. Ask your child to tell you about similar situations in their life.
6th Grade - Unit 1: Mindsets and Goals
Lesson 6: Monitoring Your Progress - In this week’s lesson, your child will learn strategies for how to stay on track toward their goals. They’ll learn how to monitor their own progress, decide if they need to try new strategies, and determine when their goal is complete.
Try this at home: Ask your child about a goal they’re actively working toward. Ask them if they are encountering any roadblocks and how you can help them determine the next steps forward.
7th Grade - Unit 1: Mindsets and Goals
Lesson 6: Overcoming Roadblocks 2 - In this week’s lesson, your child will identify a goal they want to work on, anticipate roadblocks, and develop an If–Then Plan for their own goal.
Try this at home: Think of a time you achieved a big goal, such as learning to drive or graduating from school. Tell your child about your big goal and some of the smaller goals you needed to finish in order to achieve it. Ask your child to tell you about a goal they have.
8th Grade - Unit 1: Mindsets and Goals
Lesson 6: My Future Self - In this week’s lesson, your child will imagine who they want to be in the future.
Try this at home: Ask your child what they want their life to look like in the future. What skills or abilities do they want to have? What qualities or values do they want to develop?
