Partnering with Families to support all students.
Hello FPCS Families!
I can't believe that it is the middle of September already, winter is right around the corner. For my wife and I who spent most of the past 15 years near the equator, it will be interesting, even if we did both grew up in Alaska. It already feels like it is going to snow when we go outside in the morning and it's only 48 degrees.
I want to thank all of you who came in to test this past week. For those of you that did not make it, don't worry, you can schedule a makeup test time with your sponsor teacher. Also, for all K-3 students next week it's mClass testing time. I am very excited to give you the opportunity to get information about how your child's reading skills are developing so that you can be sure that they are going to be fluent readers in 3rd grade!
Test results will be coming home soon and you can schedule a time with your sponsor teacher to go over the results. They will help you make the most out of the information gained!
In other news, you will be hearing soon about some quarterly events that will be coming up this year. This will be a chance for your children to get together with other FPCS kids and do something fun! You also get the chance to meet other FPCS families for networking and support. It is a win-win!
I hope that your academic year is off to a great start! Go Muskox!
Attention Parents of K-3 Students
mCLASS testing for K-3rd grade will take place September 16th to the 19th on a drop-in basis. There is no need to sign up. NOTE: If your 3rd grader did MAP testing last week, please come in for the mClass test sometime this coming week.
One of the skills tested on the upcoming mCLASS benchmark is Phonemic Awareness. This simply checks to see if your child can identify the sounds in spoken words. It isn't a skill always found in all reading programs so sometimes it confuses young readers. You can prepare your child for this skill check by having them tell you the sounds they hear in words. Example: cat= c/a/t/, splat= s/p/l/a/t, hide= h/ī/d, bridge= b/r/i/j. Have fun playing with words!
MAP TESTING - IT'S NOT TOO LATE
Celebrate Constitution Day!
September 17 is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. This day commemorates the September 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution.
Next time you are at the office be sure to pick-up a pamphlet of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America. They are located at the front desk. They are free and always a good educational tool.
