The Fowler Weekly
March 18-22
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Fowler Families,
I need to ask for your help with parent pick up in the afternoon. I know students are excited when they see their rides show up, but we have had a lot of students darting up the driveway to hop into cars on their way down towards the official pick up location. We are asking all students to wait until their vehicle gets close to the blue baseball booth before hopping into their ride. We understand the desire to get in early, especially on rainy days, but waiting until cars are closer to the bottom of the loop will help keep the process organized and students safe.
Also, over the past two weeks, several of our microwaves have stopped working. If anyone has spare and gently used microwaves, we would love to have a few donated to the school for students to use during lunch time. Please let us know if you have an item you are willing to drop off.
Finally, if you have a flexible schedule and can assist our 8th grade students on Career Day (April 19th) from 10:30am-1:30pm we would love to have you join us on the trip! (Remember, we do need you to be a "cleared' volunteer in order to help. This process can take up to two weeks.)
Please find our sign up link here.
Sincerely,
Andy
6th GRADE PARENTS - OUTDOOR SCHOOL INFORMATION
It’s here! Week 2 Outdoor School (Science Teachers = Vega or Walker) leaves this Tuesday!
DROP OFF: On Tuesday, March 19, students will need to be dropped off at school between 8:30-8:45am. Please do not drop off students early, as our buses will be arriving with our remaining 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. We encourage carpooling, if possible.
Students may NOT ride buses to school that day due to the bulkiness of their gear.
Here is a link to the Packing List in case you have misplaced it. The following items are NOT allowed: candy, gum, food, cell phones, electronics or money. It is important to clearly mark your student’s name on their gear. Please be sure to pack clothing, jackets and dry shoes for cold weather. Place the student’s gear on the luggage bus. (See Photo Below)
After dropping off their gear, students need to:
check-in with their Science teacher
TURN IN MEDICATIONS (in original containers)
Board their assigned bus.
PICK UP: Please plan on picking your student up on Friday, March 22 around 1:15-1:30pm. We will text updates if they are running later than expected.
For those students who have Walker or Vega for Science, but are NOT going to Outdoor School, please come to school as normal. All students will begin their day in Mr. Walker’s room 26 for Morning Meeting.

8TH GRADE TRANSITION INFORMATION
Our 8th grade students received their Course Selection information on Thursday after a presentation by the Tigard High School counselors regarding their transition to high school. They were given paperwork and instructions to take home and complete. Here is the 8th Grade Course Selection Slideshow they presented. All Course Selection materials are available on the 8th grade student Canvas Tile.
Completed Class Selection Sheets are due to their Science teacher no later than this Wednesday, March 20.
6TH & 7th GRADE FORECASTING INFORMATION
Current 6th & 7th graders will be forecasting for elective classes the week of April 1. Counselors will visit Science classes to review the information and hand out forecasting forms. We ask that parents review student selections and sign the form. Forms are due back for 6th graders Thursday, April 4, & for 7th graders Friday, April 5.
STATE TESTING
Federal and state mandatory testing is fast approaching.
Please ensure your students arrive on time with a charged iPad, get a good night of sleep, and please avoid making any appointments during this time.
All students will be taking the English Language Arts & Math assessment during the weeks of April 15th & 22nd. We rely on these assessments to assist with student placements, funding, and academic growth tracking. Eighth grade Science students will test during their regularly scheduled Science class. We will have a special schedule for all students on April 15th-26th (excluding Wednesday & April 19th) where they will test during their morning meeting group for an extended amount of time. Thank you for your support during this process.

PSO
It’s a sale! Costco currently has CupNoodles on sale for $3 off. These are top sellers in the Student Store. If you are able to pick up one, or a few boxes of CupNoodles and drop it by the Main Office, this would help the Student Store, and PSO budget, tremendously!
The next PSO Meeting is the week we return from Spring Break. Wednesday, April 3 at 6pm in the Fowler Library.
DISTRICT NEWS
Tigard Turns the Tide, in partnership with TTSD, encourages you to have conversations with your child/ren about fentanyl. Fentanyl is a dangerous drug that is circulating in Washington County. A tiny amount of fentanyl — the size of two grains of salt — can be fatal.
Fentanyl is often disguised as “look alike” pills. Some teens buy or get pills from classmates and friends, or via social media connections. They might think these pills are drugs like Adderall, Percocet, Oxycodone, or Xanax. What they may get are fake pills containing fentanyl. Fentanyl can also be contained in street drugs such as methamphetamines, ecstasy and heroin.
Let your student know that any pill they don’t get from a pharmacy may contain fentanyl, which can be fatal. Even if the pill comes from a friend or classmate, it could have fentanyl in it.
The New Drug Talk offers helpful resources for starting the conversation. For more information about Fentanyl, go to songforcharlie.org.
If you are worried about your student or looking for resources, a good place to start is your student's school counselor.
You can find more resources on the TTSD website. The Tigard High School-Based Health Center (503-431-5775) is able to provide Alcohol and Drug Assessments for all TTSD students. Lastly, the Washington County Crisis & Consultation Line is available 24 hours a day at 503-291-9111.
