Fremont Elementary School
May 9, 2025 NEEDS TO BE CHANGED

A Message From Mrs. Carmody
Dear Fremont Families,
It’s hard to believe we’re heading into the final stretch of our school year! These last few weeks are filled with excitement, reflection, and celebration. Our students have grown so much—academically, socially, and emotionally—and we couldn’t be prouder of all they’ve accomplished.
With summer just around the corner, there’s a joyful buzz in the air from both students and staff. At the same time, this season marks an important transition. Moving from one grade to the next is a big step. It’s exciting, and sometimes a little bittersweet. Our students have made friends, formed relationships with their teachers, learned routines, built confidence, and continued to lay a strong foundation for their learning journey. As they prepare for what’s next, we’ll spend these last few weeks helping them feel proud, prepared, and celebrated.
Thank you for the incredible support you’ve shown all year long. Our staff felt especially appreciated this week during Staff Appreciation Week. A heartfelt thank-you to the PTO for the thoughtful celebrations and treats, and to all the families who sent in kind notes, flowers, and delicious snacks—we felt the love!
There are many important dates coming up. Please look at the calendar carefully for details.
Let’s finish the year strong—filled with smiles, special memories, and a whole lot of heart.
With gratitude,
Beth Carmody
Preschool Visits Kindergarten!

2025-26 School Year Registration Now Open
2025-26 Wednesday Right at School
FSD79 has worked diligently over the past two years to identify challenges and refine practices to accommodate the growth of our Wednesday Right at School program for our K-5 students. The program has grown from about 80 students to 130 (maxed at one point to 160) students.
Over the past few months, the District has been reviewing the program to ensure it remains safe, effective, and sustainable for our students and staff. We received a total of 58 responses to our late January survey. Survey result highlights include:
80% report satisfaction or high satisfaction
71% report the program is a necessity for childcare access and/or cost
60% report being unsure if charging a nominal fee would impact their decision to register
After gathering feedback and carefully reviewing the recent survey data, we’re making a few adjustments starting in the 2025-2026 school year to improve student safety and reduce operational challenges, while keeping the program at no cost to families.
Limited Enrollment: The program will be available to 100 students to improve the supervision ratio and reduce the volume of student demands at the end of the day, improving safety and workload issues. This June, families will be able to register their students for inclusion in a lottery system to determine the individuals selected to participate in the program for the 2025-2026 school year. The results of the lottery will be shared with families in mid-July.
New Start Date: We will begin the program in the second week of September, allowing our students, particularly kindergartners and first-graders, to acclimate to regular dismissal procedures prior to adding the Wednesday Right at School program to their schedule.
Full-Year Commitment: Families will need to register for the entire school year. There has been little change in registration between the fall and spring cycles. Avoiding a mid-year registration should help alleviate confusion for some families.
Consistent Pick-Up & Transportation: Consistent parent pick-up or bus transportation will be required. Providing weekly flexibility has proven challenging as it has added variables that contribute to inefficient bus or parent pick-up.
We’re excited to continue offering this valuable opportunity while making sure it meets the needs of our students and staff. More details regarding registration will be shared in the coming weeks. Please contact Nick Brilowski, Director of Public Relations, if you have any questions.
SEL Plan for 2025-26
We are excited to share that our district will be launching a comprehensive Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) plan beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. This initiative, guided by the RULER framework, will help students, staff, and families build emotional intelligence and foster a positive school culture. Staff will receive foundational SEL training, and each school will implement consistent SEL practices tailored to their community. Over the next three years, SEL will be integrated into classrooms and supported through family workshops, with the goal of strengthening connections between home and school.
This effort aligns with our newly developed Portrait of a Graduate, which defines the key skills and mindsets our students need to thrive—including resilience, responsibility, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Together, these initiatives will prepare our students to adapt, collaborate, and lead with purpose in an ever-changing world.
