New Courses at FHS!
We are excited about the new courses and opportunities we have to offer our students at FHS!
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) AP Computer Science Principals
Using Python® as a primary tool, students learn the fundamentals of coding, data processing, data security, and task automation, while learning to contribute to an inclusive, safe, and ethical computing culture. The course promotes computational thinking and coding fundamentals and introduces computational tools that foster creativity. Computer Science Principles help students develop programming expertise and explore the workings of the Internet. Projects and problems include app development, visualization of data, cybersecurity, and simulation. PLTW is recognized by the College Board as an endorsed provider of curriculum and professional development for AP® Computer Science Principles (AP CSP). This endorsement affirms that all components of PLTW CSP’s offerings are aligned to the AP Curriculum Framework standards and the AP CSP assessment.
Principles of Officiating
The Principles of Officiating course is an elective, independent study course that focuses on the professional philosophy and professional requirements for officiating athletic sports contests. The course is designed to provide students training and practical experiences in officiating sports and to provide students the knowledge and expertise necessary to officiate as officials with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA). The course is based on practices pertaining to the National Federation Officials Manual and the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Manual. This course may cover officiating in volleyball, football, basketball, soccer, baseball, and softball. Upon completion of the course, students will take certification exams for the sport components and become restricted certified officials with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) at the sub-varsity level.
The Ohio Department of Education has announced that it will now recognize a sports officiating license issued by the Ohio High School Athletic Association as an Industry Recognized Credential, which can be counted as credit toward high school graduation requirements.
5G and Broadband Readiness Certification Course
The 5G and Broadband course will be a semester long course available to juniors and seniors and can be taken as an independent study. Students will complete four, industry-recognized micro-credentials that stack toward a 5G Readiness Certification. Each credential contains 14 hours (4 weeks) of self-paced content delivered online and asynchronously. Some credentials also include live, instructor-led sessions via Zoom. After successfully completing the four 5G and Broadband credentials, students will earn the 12 point Industry-Recognized Credential Seal, which is part of the graduation requirements established by the Ohio Department of Education. Visit the website below for more information.
Concert Band
Concert band will be a 1/2 credit and will be a 2nd semester course only. Students will perform with the Fredericktown High School Concert Band. Students enrolling in this course will be placed in a study hall first semester so they can participate in rehearsals once concert season begins (usually around the middle of November after the Marching Band Varsity Show). Enrollment must be discussed with Mr. Hollenbaugh & approved by Guidance.
Second Semester Chorus
This class will be a 1/2 credit and will be offered 2nd semester. The course will follow the description offered in Chorus. This option is only available to those students whose schedules prevent them from enrolling in full-year Chorus. Single semester enrollment must be approved by Guidance and Mrs. Dearth.
Journalism (Freddie Flash online publication)
This course will stress the fundamentals of news writing, page composition, web development, and podcasting. The focus of the journalism course is to help students learn and develop technological, communication, and collaboration skills that will enhance their ability to work and thrive in an ever-changing and increasingly tech-driven world. Students will collaborate to plan, prepare, produce, promote, and premier fresh and regular online text, audio, and video content for the Fredericktown community.
This course is project-based and will require out-of-classroom time to accomplish project goals. This course is designed to offer parents and community partners access to the events and activities of this school community.

Lunch Charges
There are many students who have outstanding lunch balances. If you owe fees please try to get these paid down as soon as possible. Transcripts will not be issued or sent for students who owe fees, nor will they participate in graduation practice or receive their diploma during graduation ceremonies.
Freddie Care Closet
The goal is to provide students with food, clothing or personal items while keeping it anonymous.
How it works:
- Students scan the QR code and an email is sent to one of the Counselors.
- The student will be called down to meet with the Counselor to discuss their needs.
- If the student is comfortable, the Counselor and student can walk together to the Care Closet or the student can share what they need and the Counselor will get it for them.
