Message from Mr. Souza
Dear MHS Families,
It's hard to believe it's already the middle of October, and we've officially reached the half-way point of first semester (thank you Mr. Stowers), but it's been a blast getting here!
Starting this evening, we have our first play of the year. Our Theatre Department has been working very diligently to produce "The Philadelphia Story", by Philip Berry. I poked my head into the auditorium to see rehearsals and was wowed by the incredible set the students built. It's a must see!
October 18 at 3:45 pm and 7:30pm
October 19 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. Click here to purchase.
Next week is picture retake day. Students and staff, if you have not yet had your picture taken for the yearbook, this will be your last opportunity. VIP staff will be in the District Meeting Room on Wednesday, October 23rd from 10:15am to 2:15pm. No appointment is necessary.
Together...Juntos...we move boldly into the 2nd half of first semester. Let's make it count! Winter break will be here before you know it. 😉
Have a great weekend everyone!
Go Mustangs!

Mundelein High School Hosts First-Ever Career Expo & Networking Event
On Thursday, October 17th, approximately 80 professionals representing seven different career pathways offered guidance, connection, and advice to the students of Mundelein High School at the first-ever Career Expo & Networking Event!
Some of the attendees included a beekeeper, our school architects and engineers, an animator, the people in charge of keeping our water clean, representatives from a variety of health careers, a physical therapist, a web designer, a financial planner, and even an engineering company who brought their robotic dog! You can see him in action here: https://bit.ly/RobotPuppy.
As always, the photos will do a better job of communicating the positive dynamic that existed in the main gym, but special mention needs to be made of the four MHS alumni who represented their professions: Matthew Lorenzo (Class of 2002), Douglas Alberts (Class of 2016), Zack Zagula (Class of 2016), and Brian Carranza (Class of 2021).
In addition to offering students a chance to connect with professionals in a wide range of industries, students had the chance to speak with four staffing professionals (one of them Steve Ellingsen, husband of staff member Julie Ellingsen) to get feedback on their resumes and LinkedIn profiles, as well as take a studio-grade headshot at the photography booth hosted by Liz Schrenk, wife of MHS art teacher Peter Schrenk and owner of Something Blue Photography!

BINGO!
A number of MHS student-athletes had the privilege of helping out with Bingo Night at Grand Dominion on Wednesday evening. They had lots of fun collaborating with the residents and are excited for future opportunities to return.

This does not evaluate for current high-risk behaviors, rather this is a preventative program to support the development of coping skills and self regulation strategies.
Omni utilizes the Substance Use Risk Profile Scale (SURPS) to screen students for eligibility. To learn more about PreVenture, click below.

Last Friday we ran at the Lakes Sunset Invitational. We came away with our best effort of the season so far. The format is a bit different than other meets. The team is separated into 3 flights- runners 1-5, runners 6-10, and runners 11 up. A Link to the full results is at the bottom.
The third flight saw Adrian Pacheco Reyes and James Glaskin-Clay take the lead and push the pace after the mile. Adrian eventually took 2nd out of the 181 runners while running a 40 second PR. James finished in 7th. Henry Molozaiy took 31at, Jacob Williams took 55th in a PR, with Logan Lazaro taking 67th in another PR. Logan's time was not only a PR, but over 3 minutes faster than he ran on the same course in early September. As a team, they took 4th out of 13 teams. A great job by everyone in the flight.
In the 2nd flight, we kept our phenomenal freshmen down to run together. It paid off, as they went 1-2-3 overall. Erick Cordova took 1st in a PR, Aidan Sweet was 2nd in a 30 second PR, and Brandon Newell was 3rd in a near PR. Our 4th freshman, Advik Sharma, took 21st with a 40 second PR, and Finn Keegan took 43rd to finish the scoring. The squad took 2nd in the flight out of 16 teams, only 14 points out of 1st.
In the first flight, Elijah Mendoza took 7th overall. Izic Miller and Nathan McCreight took 33rd and 34th, with Nathan continuing his return from injury with a PR. Andrew Weaver took 47th and Logan Ramirez took 62, with Andrew just off his PR and Logan breaking 17 for the first time this season. As a side note, we now have 9 runners under 17 minutes for the first time since 2019. The squad took 5th out of 15 teams. Combining the first 2 flights, we finished in 4th overall. A great demonstration of our depth this year.
Saturday will be the Conference Meet at Lake Forest HS. More info will be coming shortly. In the meantime, It's A Great Day To Be A

Girls Cross Country is gearing up for the Conference Meet on Saturday! We've had some awesome highlights the past few weekends to help us prepare.
First, there were some great performances on 10/5 from both our Varsity and JV squads! At Peoria, Varsity had 3 lifetime bests + 2 season & course bests and placed 11th out of 31 teams! At the Antioch invite, JV had some course bests and were led by Laly Garcia who earned her first XC medal for 5th in the JV race!
Last Friday at the Lakes Invite, the team had an explosion of competitiveness & PRs! In total, there were 14 Lifetime PRs, 4 Season bests, & 2 Course bests! Varsity took 8th/16 teams with Precious O., Hannah R. & Brooklyn D. leading the way with massive PRs & all running sub-19!
Last week's Runner of the Week was freshman Samantha Booi. Samantha has been with the team since the summer and her training is paying off! She takes the sport seriously, continues to drop time each week, and has a confident racing mentality! She also had a major breakthrough race at Lakes, breaking 21 minutes for the first time!

Reminders
Attendance
Regular school attendance is required and necessary to develop the academic and intrapersonal skills needed for success. Students are expected to attend each class and be on time. Students who attend school regularly have been shown to achieve at higher levels than students who do not have regular attendance. If your student is going to be absent, leave early or arrive late, please submit the attendance via the monitor application within Power School in lieu of calling the attendance line and leaving a voicemail.
Please log on to the Power School parent portal at the MHS website https://www.d120.org/ to record your student’s attendance.
Attached you will find instructions on how to submit your students attendance.

Would you like to know when your student’s bus is going to be late? For Mundelein bus routes, Lakeside Transportation is using the Bus Bulletin notification system to notify parents and students when there are bus delays and schedule changes.
For more information, or to sign-up and start receiving notifications, please visit Bus Bulletin (Find Mundelein Area Schools when prompted for a district) *Note - This is managed by Lakeside Bus Company and not MHS.
Dress Code
Although we take great pride in a dress code that encourages self-expression, we do want to remind students of our student dress code policy as found in our student handbook.
Clothing must cover all undergarments (waistbands and straps excluded).
Fabric covering all private parts must not be seen through.
Clothing that depicts, advertises or advocates the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other controlled substances is prohibited.
