CALENDAR
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,
It’s Newletter Day!
I wanted to start this newsletter with a huge thankyou to our awesome office staff. They brought Pat, Lisa and myself some of the best Vanilla Slice I have ever tasted. Denise informed me this was to celebrate ‘Principal’s Day’. While I have doubts over the need to have a Principals Day, I do want to take the opportunity to thank Lisa and Pat, Assistant Principals of Bourchier Street Primary School. They do a fantastic job leading the learning and wellbeing of our great school and I feel very grateful for the support they provide.. Coming to work everyday with such great people is something I don’t take lightly!
The first two weeks of Term Three were dedicated to NAIDOC celebrations. We launched our term with a flag raising ceremony on the first day of term, with Aunty Merle Miller doing a Welcome to Country and teaching our Year Six students about this year’s NAIDOC theme ‘Keep the fire burning.’ Throughout the following weeks our students were taught about traditional games and artefacts by Tristan Miller and Tina King. A big thankyou to those people, escpecially Tina who gave up her time to ensure our students had a such a positive experience. We bought our celebrations to a close with last Friday’s NAIDOC assembly, which showcased some great performances. We aspire to continue learning about First Nations culture and perspectives throughout the year and NAIDOC week is a wonderful time to share this with our community.
Today we are holding our Olympic day. It has been fantastic to see everyone out on the oval this morning participating in some great activities. I wanted to thank our Year Six team for leading this. The kids are having a great time!
Tomorrow, we're celebrating the 100 Days of School with our Foundation students, and we couldn't be more excited! It's hard to believe how much they've grown and learned in just 100 days. This milestone is a big deal for them and for us, as we reflect on all the wonderful moments and progress they've made. They will be showing off their outfits by parading in assembly tomorrow afternoon, come along if you can!
We are also looking forward to the first 2025 transition session happening on August the 25th. It will be very exciting to welcome the next group of students to the Bourchier family. These sessions will happen at 2:15pm on Fridays. If you know of anyone that is due to start Foundation next year and is due to start school please encourage them to make contact with the office as soon as possible.
There is so much more happening around the place that I find it difficult to write about, so pla=ease check Compass, Seesaw and the rest of this newsletter to learn more about all the great things that are happening.
Hope you have a great week!

BOURCHIER GOING FOR OLYPIC GOLD TODAY!!
Today we held our very own Olympics. The day focused on having fun and coming dressed in green and gold. By the looks of all the smiles the day was enjoyed by all. Go Aussies!
POTATO OLYMPICS
This week the Year 4’s were lucky enough to launch the ‘Potato Olympics’. Each student got to design and create their own potato athlete and decide which country it would be representing. To kick off the competition, we held an opening ceremony where each athlete marched behind their flag before one of the French athletes lit the ‘cauldron’. The potato athletes will be participating in a variety of events including breakdancing, archery, gymnastics and weightlifting. This will allow our Year 4 students to practise a variety of Mathematical skills including estimating, measuring, adding and collecting data. We are so excited to see our potato athletes thrive and do their countries proud!!
NAIDOC WEEK
Bourchier Street proudly celebrated Naidoc week with a series of special activities and events that honored the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal people. A highlight was a special assembly where students were treated to traditional dances. The assembly was vibrant and a powerful reminder of the rich cultural heritage that Naidoc week celebrates.

ATTENTION JUNIOR SCHOOL
Preventing the spread of Ilness in School
As the cold weather arrives, so do coughs, colds, stomach bugs and other respiratory illnesses.
It is important that we practice good hygiene, such as washing our hands, hand sanitiser, and using tissues when we cough or sneeze.
If your child is away due to sickness, please update their absence via our Compass App.
Arriving to school on time
Arriving to school on time is crucial for both students and staff. It sets a positive tone for the day, ensures that you don’t miss important instructions or activities, and demonstrates respect for the school community’s time and schedule. Here are a few tips to help ensure timely arrival:
1. Prepare the night before: Lay out clothes, pack your bag, and prepare lunch the night before to avoid morning delays.
2. Set an alarm: This will help give you ample time to get ready and commute to school.
3. Stay organized: Keep track of your schedule and any special activities or events that might require you to arrive earlier than usual.
Being on time helps create a structured and efficient learning environment for everyone involved.
If you’re picking your student up early
If a parent/guardian needs to pick up their student early from school for an appointment or any other significant reason, please notify your child’s teacher or the front office, with as much notice possible.
Often students are in a specialist program or out of the classroom, so if no notice is given it puts pressure on the office staff when trying to find students whilst answering phones and tending to sick bay.
Please be mindful as we have quite a few students leaving school early which interrupts the classroom as well as their learning time so please avoid this when possible.
PARENT PAYMENT AND STATIONERY FOR 2024
Parent payment can be made via QKR
Parent payment $220 per student
Excursion Levy $80 per student
If you have a Health Care Card and claimed CSEF, you will receive $150 credit which can be used for camps and excursions only.
SCHOOL UNIFORMS
All children are expected to wear full school uniform
The wearing of school uniform helps children develop a sense of identity with the school community.
The school uniform helps promote a positive image of both students and the school to the general community. The wearing of school uniform promotes equality.
The school uniform is to be worn during school hours, while traveling to and from school, and when the students are on school excursions.
All school uniform must be clearly named so that lost items can be identified.
Jackets and hats can be purchased from the school. Shepparton retail shops stock the entire uniform. The school endeavors to provide pre-loved items at the cheapest possible cost.
Please refer to our Student Dress Code Policy
