Important Information and Action Items for Advisors
What to do about Missing Orientation Intake Surveys
If you are advising an orientation student and they do not have an intake survey, check again on the day of advising. Kellee emails these students to fill out the survey immediately if they have not done it yet. Unfortunately, it takes two days before it shows up in SAGE.
Registration Help Student-Friendly Website Link
- https://osas.franklin.uga.edu/registration-assistance-advisor-drop-hours.
- Kellee has rewritten it to be student-friendly and removed the password,. The link is included in the follow-up template in OneNote.
Remote Orientation Advising and FERPA (from Julia Butler-Mayes)
- University Academic Advising Services has created a web-based system to inform students about their FERPA rights and give them the option to complete a FERPA consent form.
The information will be provided to students through the SAGE email, but if they need the form later the link (and full text of the email) is in the Orientation OneNote right at the very top under “Orientation Communications.”
If you receive a “not supported by this browser” error message when using the link in the word doc attachment, you should be able to clear your cache/restart your browser to correct it.
Orientation No-Show Steps (for May only!):
So guess what? Orientation students are no-showing appointments. For now, Mike's suggesting the No-Show Policy below for May until the Leads can meet and discuss strategies for the rest of the summer
Email Kellee to notify her of no-show
If student never contacts you, don’t worry about it…
If student later contacts you, you have the following options:
Email advise the student
Contact Kellee to have that student assigned another advising appointment slot with you
Please do not reschedule the student yourself
This is a temporary policy until we discuss it more this week in Leads and come up with something more long-term/sustainable/etc… that could deal with students who no-show multiple times throughout the summer. Please be on the lookout in the future for a more comprehensive policy.

Advising Guide for working with our incoming UGA Student-Athletes
Please find attached a specialized Advising Guide for working with our incoming UGA Student-Athletes.
- Early May: Most Summer-starting Student-Athletes are expected to complete their Orientation requirements in the first couple of weeks of May. These students will need to be advised to take 1 Summer Session II (July) course. While relatively few, there are a small handful of transfer student-athletes who will be coming through as well.
- Late May: A smaller group of Summer-starting student-athletes will be completing their Orientations later this month. These students will likely work with DAE’s Learning Support program in addition to Advising before meeting with their Athletic Counselors.
- June-August: The Fall-starting students will be required to complete OL Sessions and, therefore, are likely to be staggered throughout the months of June and July. None of these students will need to register for a Summer course.
