National Principal Appreciation Day is May 1st
Happy National Principal Appreciation Day!
Thank you to all the dedicated principals whose tireless efforts, unwavering commitment, and hard work are truly appreciated. You are the unsung heroes behind every student’s success, creating environments where learning thrives and futures are built. Mr. Gorman, Mrs. DiSimone, Mrs. Mele, and Mrs. Jones, we celebrate you and everything you do to support students, staff, and entire school communities. Cinnaminson is better because of your leadership!
Thank you for being the guiding force in education.
National School Nurse Appreciation Day is May 7th
To our amazing elementary school nurses, Mrs. Ormsby and Mrs. Quinn, thank you for the compassion, care, and calm you bring every single day. From soothing scrapes and stomachaches to being a source of comfort and safety, your impact reaches far beyond the nurse’s office. You are a vital part of our school family, and we are so grateful for your tireless dedication to our students’ health and well-being.
Thank you for being the heart of our care.
Happy Nurse Appreciation Day!
Happy National Speech-Language Pathologist Appreciation Day!
On May 18th we celebrate our incredible elementary school SLPs,
Mrs. Jenkins, Mrs. Derry, Mrs. Bond, and Ms. Campanella, experts in communication and champions for every child's voice. Your patience, dedication, and passion help students express themselves, grow in confidence, and succeed in school and beyond. You make a lasting impact every day, and your work does not go unnoticed.
Thank you for helping our students find their voices—one word at a time.
May is Better Speech and Hearing Month!
This annual event provides an opportunity to raise awareness about hearing and speech problems, and to encourage people to think about their own hearing and get their hearing checked. Early identification and intervention for hearing loss is important. Many people live with unidentified hearing loss, often failing to realize that they are missing certain sounds and words. Checking one’s hearing is the first step toward addressing the issue.

Staff Appreciation Week
Dear New Albany and Memorial Annex School Staff,
Thank you for always being so attentive to your students' needs. Your care, dedication, and unwavering attentiveness truly make a difference each and every day. Because of you, New Albany and Memorial Schools are not just a place to learn—it’s a place where every student feels supported,
seen, and inspired.
We are so grateful for all that you do to make this school the
very best it can be!
With heartfelt appreciation,
Val & Janette
May 2nd is School Lunch Hero Day
Not All Heroes Wear Capes!
Stop by any cafeteria to watch school nutrition professionals prepare healthy meals for students—all the while adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile—and you’ll see they are true heroes!
This is the reason we celebrate School Lunch Hero Day every year on the first Friday in May. This annual observance is a chance to showcase what a difference school nutrition professionals make in the lives of every child who comes through the cafeteria.
We are grateful to our very own school lunch heroes, Ms. Janet, Ms. Linda, and Ms. Lynn, for all they do for our students. They are always so positive and friendly with students and make healthy, delicious lunches that students enjoy. Thank you for always leading with kindness!
Counseling Corner
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month. Established in 1949 by Mental Health America, the goal is to help people recognize the ways that mental health concerns can impact their lives, reduce the stigma associated with mental health, provide education about resources that are available in their community, and promote support for individuals and families affected by mental health.
Mental Health Awareness month is an important time to recognize and practice self-care activities that we can use every day, as it is important to make sure we are taking care of ourselves. Examples of self-care activities include writing in a journal, listening to music, spending time outdoors going on a walk or gardening, deep breathing exercises, and coloring.
A Note from Mrs. Conn
This month in the library, we will be reading and learning about insects. Insects are such a fascinating topic, and there’s so much to explore in both fiction and nonfiction. Reading about some of the world’s tiniest inhabitants always gets kids excited about reading.
It’s always fun to “Bee a Reader”.

National Physical Fitness and Sports Month
May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month!
This is a time to highlight the importance of staying active through sports and other physical activities. In celebration of this observance, we encourage everyone to get at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day, and work together to provide ample opportunity for students to be physically active both at school and at home.
A few ways we encourage physical activity at school:
-Physical Education class
-Recess
-Movement brain breaks inside the classroom
-Walks along the sensory path in school hallways
-Taking brain breaks outside when weather permits
-Field Day on Thursday, May 22nd (Rain date - Friday May 23rd)
Here are some ways to promote physical activity at home:
-Go for family walks (nature walks/scavenger hunts can be extra fun!)
-Drawing with chalk on the sidewalk/driveway
-Playing games with friends in the neighborhood
-Watching TV (that's right!) - challenge each other to try to hold a plank position throughout a commercial break
-Riding bike, scooter, etc.
-Trying out new sports together! Figure out something that nobody in the family has played before and give it a try!

🗣 Schoolwide Universal Expectations!
📣 New Albany Student Recognition
Good character is important for students and adults. It is shown through our thoughts, words, and actions. At New Albany, we stress respect, responsibility, and kindness by following
our schoolwide expectations:
Be Respectful - I will use good manners and treat others in a way that I would like to be treated. I will be kind, express gratitude, forgive others, and help those in need.
Be Responsible - I will do what I am supposed to do and be accountable for my actions. I will try my best in all academic areas.
Be Safe - I will respect school property and make smart choices, doing my best to keep New Albany School a safe and clean place to learn.
Throughout the school year, students and staff will continue to learn ways to display good character traits through counselor and teacher lessons.
