Message from the Principal
Hello Spartan Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,
Thank you to everyone that attended conferences on Thursday night! It is always great to have parents in the building supporting our work with all of our Spartans. We have a lot of informational events coming up in the near future so please check out the entire newsletter for some of those opportunities.

Informational Series
With the turning of the calendar, we will begin focusing on our preparations for the 2025-2026 school year. One of the major topics that comes up throughout the school year is making sure that students have an opportunity to select the classes they would like to prepare for the post high school life. Please see the dates and the topics below for dates and details of these informational sessions:
January 22nd @ 6:30pm - Pathways for Student Career Exploration
February 18th @6:00pm - Incoming 9th Grader Parent Meeting (for current 8th graders)
February 19th @ 6:30pm - Choosing Courses of 2025-2026 (geared toward current LHS students)
Financial Aid Parent Night
A Paying for College informational session for parents/caregivers will take place on Wednesday, February 5th from 5:15-6:15pm in the Lakeview High School Black Box. We will cover the material presented to the seniors in the Financial Aid Part 1 & 2 lessons which include the FAFSA, Legacy Scholarship, Michigan Achievement Scholarship, Tuition Incentive Program, Battle Creek Community and Lakeview Schools Education Fund Scholarships. This meeting is geared towards parents of seniors.
Winter Carnival
We will celebrate Winter Carnival the week of February 3-8. The Winter Carnival dance will be held in the high school cafeteria on Saturday, February 8 from 7pm to 10pm. We will sell tickets in advance that week for $10. They can also be purchased at the door the night of for the same price.
Parent Walk Throughs
As a parent, do you ever wonder what really happens during a day at Lakeview High School? Starting in October, we would like to invite parents in to see what the building looks like when it is full of teachers, students, and learning!
Parents who sign up for a Parent Walk Through can expect the following agenda:
30 minute introduction with Principal Cody Japinga
60 minute tour of the building including:
Classroom visits to multiple classrooms
Program introductions
Passing time in the hallways
30 minute conclusion with a question and answer session
*Please bring an ID as we will have to print you a visitor badge!

Boys Basketball -
- The Boys Varsity Basketball team faced a tough matchup against Portage Northern on Tuesday, narrowly falling 70-68 in a hard-fought game. Standout Performances came from Lebron Campbell, who dominated with 29 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Spencer Shotwell contributed 11 points and 6 rebounds. Bradyn McGill recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
- The Boys JV Basketball team was victorious against Portage Northern, capping off the evening with a 56-47 victory! Memphis Wirtz led the team with 20 points, Sean O'Donnell added 11 points, and Isaiah Jackson contributed 10 points.
Girls Basketball -
- Varsity - The team faced tough matchups this week, resulting in a 31-55 loss to Mason, where standout performances included Camille Oxley scoring 15 points and Danayah Williams had 8 points. In their matchup against Portage Northern they ended 31-53.Despite the results, we’re incredibly proud of how the girls have persevered and shown continuous improvement as the season progresses. Keep pushing forward—your hard work and resilience are inspiring!
- The JV Girls Basketball team had an impressive week, securing victories over Mason and Portage Northern: 33-26 vs. Mason and 37-29 vs. Portage Northern. The team showcased tremendous determination, with their effort on the boards proving crucial in both games, creating multiple scoring opportunities.
- The Girls Freshman Basketball team took on Mason this week, showing great effort and determination but falling short with a 20-41 loss. Despite the result, the team displayed resilience and hard work. Keep striving, ladies—brighter days are ahead! Their game against Marshall was cancelled due to weather.
Bowling - Perfect Weekend Against Paw Paw - This past weekend, the Boys and Girls Bowling teams had an incredible showing against Paw Paw High School, both finishing with a perfect 3-0 record! High Scorers for the Boys Team were Austin Edwards - 351, Evan Grant - 339, and Caden Williams - 326. High scorers for the Girls Team were Ashlyn McMillon - 235, Carlee Gaskell - 232, and Kendra McPeters - 200. This weekend, they face Plainwell at the Rev & Roll. Good luck, bowlers—keep the streak going!
Competitive Cheer - The Competitive Cheer team had an exciting and successful week with two impressive outings:
- Saturday, 1/11: Competed at the Perry Winter Invitational at Perry High School and secured 2nd place in Division 1.
- Monday, 1/13: Took part in the second SMAC Meet of the season, finishing 4th in the division with a season-high score of 600.6.
Congratulations to the team for their continued growth and outstanding performances. Keep up the great work, ladies!
Boys Swim & Dive - Last Saturday, the Lakeview boys’ swim team competed at the All-City Swim Meet at Harper Creek, where a Lakeview athlete won first place in every swim and dive event. On Thursday, the team traveled to Portage Northern, securing an impressive 111-70 victory. Highlights included:
- Jack Darland and Easton Kline dominated the 100 backstroke, taking first and second place with times of 59.55 and 1:01.32.
- Josh Neal achieved a lifetime best of 1:04.80 in the 100-yard butterfly.
- Parker Miller broke new ground with a score of over 100 in diving for the first time!
Join us next Thursday as we host Bridgman at home!
Get ready for an exciting evening of basketball as Battle Creek Lakeview takes the court tonight! Girls JV starts at 4:15 pm, followed by Girls Varsity and Boys Varsity. It’s shaping up to be a night of great basketball and a big crowd! For more details, visit athletics.lakeviewspartans.org.

HS - $7.00 per person - HS students free with school ID - kids 5 and under free
MS - $5.00 per person - kids 5 and under free
Student Expectations During Athletic Events
Doors will open half an hour prior to athletic events.
- No backpacks allowed
- Middle School students must be accompanied by a parent
- During the game, students must be in the stands
- After games, students will have 15 minutes to clear the facilities.
- Students are expected to be respectful and follow the rules and directions from adults who are supervising events.
