First Semester Attendance Appeals - Due December 20th
Students who have exceeded 10 or more absences in the first semester will have to submit an Attendance Appeal by Friday, December 20th if they haven't already returned a signed Attendance Improvement Plan.
Attendance Appeals were distributed to students meeting that criteria and were present in SRT on Tuesday, December 10th. Written Attendance Appeals will be due back to the basket in the Main Office by Friday, December 20th.
Failure to submit an Attendance Plan could result in:
- Being put on an Attendance Plan for the 3rd marking period (Mid-January to end of March) with strict criteria to meet to have credit re-instated.
- Result in credit being placed on hold during the Attendance Plan period.
- Negative impact on transcript with NC (no credit) shown on document, which could impact college acceptance.
- Negative impact on Athletic Eligibility for sports.
Students may have "held" credit earned back by:
1. Meeting conditions of a 9-week Attendance Plan.
2. Having an Attendance Appeal granted (i.e. submitting more documentation such as Dr. notes, repair bills, etc.) for absences/tardies.
3. Earning a C+ (77%) or better on the first semester exam for impacted class(es).

FHS Dance Team Ready to Perform at Halftime of the Varsity Basketball Game
Good Sportsmanship
As we continue to enjoy the excitement of basketball season, we want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship at all games, both home and away.
Good sportsmanship is an essential part of the athletic experience. It not only reflects positively on our school but also sets a strong example for our young athletes. We encourage everyone to cheer passionately for our teams, but always with respect for the players, coaches, officials, and opposing teams.
Let's work together to create an environment where all participants feel valued and supported. This includes offering kind words of encouragement, avoiding negative comments, and remembering that the game is about learning, growth, and respect for one another.
We appreciate your continued support in helping to foster a positive and respectful atmosphere at all basketball events.
Thank you for being a part of our school community!

Positivity Project (aka P2) Theme of the Week - Kindness
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Kindness. Kindness means you are generous to others and you are never too busy to help out. You enjoy doing good deeds for other people.
Kindness is grounded in the belief of a common humanity in which others are worthy of care, attention, affection, and compassion. Kind people think about the needs and feelings of other people, and then act to help those people. Kind people are selfless. That is why a true act of kindness is distinct from helping another person in order to simply gain something for yourself. An individual with the strength of kindness helps others because it's’ the right thing to do, not because they expect any reciprocal treatment or gain in reputation.
In addition to empathy and sympathy, the character strength of kindness is indicative of an individual’s moral reasoning capacity and level of social responsibility. That means people who develop kindness possess a strong personal ethical responsibility to care for other people. And, their acts of kindness towards others lead to additional acts of kindness by those who have been helped.

Student Council Getting Us in the Holiday Spirit
Student Council has stepped up their game this year, taking on decorating the FHS Square and hallway showcases this year.

Spanish Classes Get Ready for the Holidays
Spanish students have been learning about how the holiday season is celebrated and have been making "Ojo de Dios" and tissue paper flowers.
The hallway is adorned with "God's Eyes" - A God's eye or Ojo de Dios is a weaving of yarn on a cross, often used as a symbol of protection and vision in Mexican and Latin American cultures.
Also adorning the hallway are two bulletin boards filled with tissue paper flowers. After the Spanish conquest, tissue paper became the paper of choice for Christian decorations through paper crafting. The delicateness of the tissue paper made it seem more natural than sturdier material. It was during the Colonial times that making paper flowers became popular. The paper flowers of Colonial times were smaller and more muted than those found today, with most being white or cream colored.

Inclement Weather Season - Message from Superintendent
Inclement Weather Season - Message from Superintendent
With the holiday season upon us, it's that time of year when we start preparing for possible inclement weather and the possibility of school cancelation. Please take time to plan for what you and your family will do in the event we have to cancel school. The district will always attempt to make decisions in time for you to use your plans optimally; however, sometimes with mother nature and the weather patterns in Michigan it doesn't always go as we'd all appreciate.
Please take a look below at the process for a weather cancelation and understand that we try our best to ensure student safety above all else.
A. We monitor the weather, and if severe weather is predicted, as superintendent, I along with the help of our transportation/operations department, local road commission and law enforcement evaluate potential issues.
B. As superintendent, I collaborate with Genesee County Superintendents to make decisions based on the road conditions for our area currently and/or in the near future.
C. We as a district will notify designated individuals in the event of a school closure to then disseminate information as quickly as possible.
D. Families can check: the district website, messaging through our FAPS app to phones in the form of voice, text message, email message, district Facebook, and news stations (ABC 12, WNEM 5, NBC 25, Detroit Fox2).
When the weather breaks and road conditions are in question, remember to leave early and drive slowly. Also, ensure your contact information is updated with your school so the district can provide the most efficient communication.
